How am I doing in High School? Also a couple of questions about college.

Hi, I know this post may seem a bit stupid, but I’ve always been interesting in colleges also I would like to know if I’m on a good track In HS. So, I am a freshman and I have a unweighted GPA of 3.952 and a weighted GPA of 4.524.

I take:
Algebra II H
Chemistry H
English I H
Chemistry H
AP Comp. Sci. Principles
AP Human Geo
TV & Film Production (for my art credit)

So, how am I doing? Personally, I think I’m doing fine as I’m a mid-A student who occasionally gets A-'s but I just want to have some input from people who are more experienced in HS.

EC’s:
Varsity Weightlifting
Ted-Ed Club (it’s like TEDx) (I am shooting photography for the club)
International Relations Club (Model UN)
BETA Club (it’s an honors society)
Photography Club
Investment Club
I also have a small reselling business ($2,500+ profits per year)

Also, a few q’s about college apps:
Does having immediate legacy (for ivy league) increase chances of getting in?
Does applying early-admission increase chances of getting in?
Does having a non-english (in my case, Russian) first language help in admissions?

Before anyone comments anything like “you are worrying too much,” or “focus on the present and not the future,” I am simply interested if I’m doing well or not and just want a few q’s answered. I know I’m still a freshman but I always dream about attending college, thanks!

Your class schedule looks great to me and your GPA. I am glad you are already joining clubs and sports.

Your Q’s:

  1. Can’t answer… not going to IVY
  2. Early admission rumor that it boosts your chances of getting in is sorta a “myth”. It only shows that you are dedicated and truly interested in going to that school, well to me at least.
3)If your first language is not English, it doesn’t really matter (once again in my opinion). They should view all applicants the same based on your stats and what you did throughout H.S. BUT if you were born in another country and came here to the USA and found it difficult to learn English but you succeeded and learned English as your second language, they would put a plus on your resume.

I think that you are doing well, as long as you are not finding yourself too stressed out.

I am not familiar with how Ivy League schools feel about legacy. Stanford sent an article to alumni a couple of years ago which seemed to suggest that being the child of a Stanford alumni really doesn’t help much at all. However, note that there are many very good universities in the US, more elsewhere, and you appear to be solidly on track to get into some very good schools (whether Ivy or not).

Over the next two or three years you should think a bit regarding what sort of university would be the best fit for you.

You seem to be doing well. And I’m pretty sure ivies are pretty happy to take legacies.
