sorry if this is kind of stupid (i know people who post the "are A-'s bad" threads are always laughed at but i'm just not sure about this...) but are B+'s seen as bad or a sign that you're challenging yourself?

i got mostly B+'s my freshman year (B, B+, B+, B+, A-) and brought my grades up a bit sophomore year (B+, B+, A-, A-, A) and this year i'll only have 1 (it should be B+, A-, A-, A, A/A+). i'm at a compteitive high school, in almost all honors/AP classes (just not science since it's my worst subject- i'm still in an accelerated class) so my weighted GPA is fine, but i'm kind of worried about how colleges will recalculate my UW GPA since i have a fair amount of B's. i'm applying to a few very selective LACs; will these grades hurt me?

sorry if i was being annoying but you don’t have to be obnoxious about it…
i’m mainly just trying to figure out if you need to be a straight A student for top colleges or if a few B+'s will show that you were pushing yourself

@saugus: really? that’s too bad do you mean that they’re all the same when they recalculate GPAs, or do adcoms actually not see a difference between an 80 and an 89?

do you mean my high school or the colleges i’m applying to? my school does mark +'s and -'s so colleges will be able to tell when they see my transcript- will that make a difference?

yeah, on a weighted system for honors classes a B- is a 3.75, a B is a 4.0 and a B+ is a 4.25 (there’s a difference in UW GPAs too, i just don’t know what the exact number is since they never tell us our UW GPAs.)
