How are my chances?

I'm a senior in high school and I've submitted my application and (not so great) SAT scores. I'm just losing sleep over whether or not I'll make it in. I applied to Foster for Economics if that makes a difference at all. uDub is my first choice with Indiana University as my second.

Out of State (CA) White Female

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted and weighted. I've gotten all As in high school, but no AP or honors until senior year)

SAT: 1640...it still haunts me...

I'm counting on extracurriculars and a (hopefully) strong essay. It's more emotional and impacting than eloquently phrased. I didn't want to bore the reader so I didn't throw in superfluous vocabulary. My main extracurricular was choir, but I poured my soul into the program. I might end high school with a GPA higher than 4.0 because I'm taking two AP classes this year.

ECs (pretty much all choirs...but hey, they're a lot of work!)

4 years of choir, with leadership roles held. I was assistant conductor, meaning I helped run a choir. This includes doing warm ups, helping people learn their music, conducting the choir, and teaching music theory.

Local master chorale, I sing with an advanced group of adult singers from my community as a high school intern.

Regional honor choir, out of all (94, I think) schools, I got into a highly auditioned choir made of the best high school students in the region.

I've traveled all over the world with my high school choir, from New York to Austria. We've sang in Westminster Abbey, the London Olympics, St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, Germany, and Lincoln Center. I didn't get the chance to mention all of the places but I name dropped the director of choral activities at uDub because I've worked with him previously.

Personal Statements:

My personal statement was about my mother's death when I was 8 years old. I talked about how I overcame that and grew from it. I wanted to give them the message that I am a very strong and determined person with hard work ethic.

In the second essay I wrote about the time that I was in Vienna with my high school choir and we sang in a school and hung out with kids from a different culture. I was really pushing for the fact that I'm culturally aware of others and well traveled.

Others might know whether applying to Foster makes a difference, but you seem like the type of applicant UW’s “holistic review” is intended to find and admit. Good luck!

I am in a similar boat as you with not taking any AP’s until this year! Honestly, I think your gpa will make up for it as long as you didn’t take too easy classes such as TAing or something. Just make sure you have an awesome essay, and you should be fine. hope to see you there!
please chance me

I’m in the same boat as you are except I have a 3.6 and a 1600. My academic stats are low but I do have AP lang, AP gov, Honors english 10 and precalc junior year. I’m also losing sleep from thinking about my application, but the only thing keeping me sane are my EC’s (varsity sport and tons of leadership). Anyways, it seems like you have a really good chance. Your gpa is great, and your sat isn’t AS bad as you think it is. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be fine
