This fall, I'll be in a 8 person suite with 2 people per room. I'm a freshmen by the way, so I have no experience with it. So far, I heard because its honors housing the place can be extremely quite, while the regular freshmen halls are very alive and noisy.

Just curious, what college are you talking about?

I really don’t want to give too much away. But its a school in Upstate New York.

I was in a 10 person suite my freshman and sophomore years, and I really liked it. Whether it’s good or bad for you will depend on the other personalities involved – some suites were known as party suites, and others were quieter. A quieter guy from the party suite upstairs used to come down to our suite to hang out; when we signed up for rooms sophomore year, we reserved a suite with many of the same guys, including our friend from upstairs.

I lived in an 8 person suite, 2 people/room housing for my freshman year too, and I liked it. It was definitely much quieter and more antisocial than the traditional dorms, but it’s nice to have quiet sometimes. We had two bathrooms and two showers and there was never a problem with sharing because people woke up and took showers at different times.

pretty suite

I have a suite this upcoming year, too, but there’s only 3 of us now since one of the girls transferred last minute, I guess.

I’m excited about it because the communal bathrooms freak me out and the res hall I’m in is one of the newer ones with air conditioning (whoo!). The only downside is that the rooms are, I guess, smaller than the traditional ones in the non-suites.

they’re good because you have your “own” bathrooms and bigger rooms. also you have multiple people in your room so if you get in a disagreement with yours you have others to talk to in the room

they’re bad because usually you have to clean your own bathrooms, and usually they are less social than traditional dorms so it’s harder to meet people, as was the case with me

I can never understand it when people tell me they don’t want suites because they don’t want to have to clean their own bathroom. We shared our bathroom with the people next door and it hardly got dirty at all. It’s really not a big deal! I’d much rather have my own bathroom that I clean myself than to share one with the whole hall and not have much control over how clean it is.

i think my opinion is biased though because i lived with a guy who was so *ing disgusting that his *s would splatter all over the bowl, toothpaste would be on the ground, etc.

it smelled like a porta potty and i flat out refused to clean it since i didn’t make any mess in there, so it went a few months without cleaning

At my school the suite bathrooms get cleaned every week by the janitors.

I’m actually happy about what room I got. Because I don’t want to share a regular dorm room with 2 other people.
