Is it possible to get suites (non communal bathroom) dorms as a freshman at each place?!

I have searched, but I was wondering if anyone had first hand experiences with it.

The reason I don't want to get a studio or apartment is because...well I'm a freshman and most places i'm applying to it's mandatory that you're on campus freshman year. Also I would like to experience living in dorms.

I'm a fresh at Temple. I picked Peabody (oldest and smallest dorm)... it's really really tame and anti-social so far. I would advice against it.

I've been in Johnson (main freshman dorm) and it's very very nice. All new modern-ish furnature and a well-maintained building. The honors dorm is also nice.

Nothing to complain about except there's not much to do besides party and drink. (EC groups are really weak)

Do be aware that most freshmen go home on the weekends and many don't have Friday classes, so you'll be used to seeing the same faces Friday afternoon - Sunday afternoon in your dorm and across campus.

edit: if you apply for housing very early you can get suites at Temple, which are even more nice. Although the communal bathrooms are fine, even in my stinky old building (they're closed for two hours daily for cleaning).

most of the big schools like indiana, rutgers, etc, are probably going to have older, smaller dorms, with community bathrooms, especially for freshman. it could be different i guess, but thats what michigan state is like.

1300 is the newest Temple-owned dorm and is the honors dorm. It's certainly the nicest and the social aspect is what you might imagine for an honors place. Really it isn't much different than other dorms but probably a lot more clique-ish (students from surrounding area high schools all get in and dorm together). Unless you want to live with people from your HS and know about 10 people living there, I wouldn't do it.

1940 (no one calls it 1940 Park Mall :p) is also brand new. I stayed there during orientation and it was alright, nothing special, just new. I haven't been in since but it certainly seems social.

The Edge is slightly off-campus and not owned by Temple. It is mainly upperclassmen so take that as you will.

You qualify for housing after you are admitted. Immediately after admission, I think (or there might have been an opening date) you send in your $450 deposit and then choose online three dorms you'd like to stay in. So the earlier you pay, the better your chances.

I'd still reccommend Johnson. It's semi-new and the cafeteria is right on the first floor (you can either use your meal plan at the Caf or the SAC (student activities center)... the SAC is a waste of a meal plan). It also just got air conditioning last year (individual room-controlled AC units).
