I know it osunds liek a really snobby question as if all i care about is gettign laid or something but that is not the case at all. The only area i dont know about is girls at rice. Are they smart/attractive?

In a word, yes.

Rice girls are very rarely “hot” by a big state school’s standards. They tend to be more of the cute & nerdy type, which is good for Rice guys, because most of us are also of the cute & nerdy type and are rarely “hot” by a big state school’s standards.

A lot of Rice students are very naturally attractive, but they don’t invest hours each morning into their appearances. But suffice it to say that I have found plenty of smart and attractive girls at Rice to hopelessly crush on, and occasionally date.

Brains AND beauty.

depends on how hot you are…

Honestly I think the guys are better.

dont have high expectations in terms of physical beauty, there are some but not many

Aside from the fact that this is a silly criteria for choosing where you’re going to spend four years of your life, I have a hard time believing that “good looking” people would all congregate at certain schools and if it’s true, what does that say about how they chose a school?

Sorry for the repost, but I just have to disagree with BerkleyMom

Maybe not the stark physical beauty, but the overall attractiveness and your compatibility with the student body as a whole is a very important factor in choosing a school.

As prospective students it’s a tough thing to admit, but the question of whether we see our future school as a place where we will find a compatible partner is a big part of the decision making process (at least it was for me and I’m not ashamed to admit it).

That being said, to expound upon my earlier response:

Take this with a grain of salt, but here goes…

The ladies at Rice are by in large attractive. They are all very smart, and many are quite cute by conventional standards. You will not find a huge cadre of “state school hotties”, but they are indeed here. If you are attractive and interesting enough yourself to coalesce with a “state school hottie”, you should certainly have no problems finding a member of the preferred gender at Rice.

On the negative end of things, the student body here (ladies included) tend to be a bit more introverted than you may be accustomed to. As a talkative extrovert, this took some adjustment the first few weeks. A month in at this point, I have found that the people I first mistook for disliking said extroverted personality were really just intimidated. Many of these people have become my good friends. Many of these were members of the opposite sex and are quite attractive.

Come to Rice. It’s amazing here.

Tilgaham–I couldn’t agree more that it’s important to find a school you feel compatible with both socially and academically, but I doubt the OP is going to figure out that compatibility based on whether others here find girls at Rice attractive. That being said, your answer to the OP was very well put…and probably more helpful than mine!

Personally, I think there are a lot of attractive girls. They’re also incredibly down-to-earth, so it’s hard to not get to know someone you find attractive.

Rice girls as a whole are smart and have quirky personalities.

The most attractive ladies on campus are on the soccer and volleyball team. Percentage-wise, the proportion of girls who the general male population would rate 9/10 - 10/10 in attractiveness would probably match those of many other places. The problem is that Rice is such a small university so you do have to search a little harder to find them.

I find lots of the girls I came across in my time there made very good friends, but not much more. Now that we’ve all graduated and entered different grad schools, my guy buddies and I like to joke that we can finally put away the “Rice goggles”… I won’t elaborate.

I will say, though that the female Rice grad students are an attractive bunch…

All that said, I’ve had a lot more successes in my dating life elsewhere. Not to knock on Rice; maybe I just picked the wrong women, but I very rarely came across someone who was worth more than 2 dates to me…

^ so you can take girls out to Houston and do stuff? can you own a car or motorcycle so you can go into the city?

Yes, you can have a car and/or a motorcycle

Where would you park a motorcycle on the campus? And how convenient would it be to bring a motorcycle to Rice?

These sound like stupid questions, but you can’t find answers to these on the website or something.

[Rice Parking Information](http://parking.rice.edu/index.cfm)

^ well yeah. But how convenient is it to go around campus and into the city? and for colleges in general, if you have a motorcycle would it be useful to bring?

I’m not sure why you would really need a motorcycle to go around campus, but they it could certainly be useful for getting around the city if you don’t have a car and you’re willing to brave the traffic. Also, I think it’s generally easy to park a motorcycle much closer to where you live on campus than you would park a car.

The campus is small (in the sense it takes 10-15 minutes to walk end to end). You do not need anything except a bicycle or skateboard, if at all, to get around.

The city is far better with a car/motorcycle. I would recommend bringing it. Adds to your badass factor as well :P

Nah I’m not even in yet, but I will if I do :)
