How bad does it look to Q-drop a course?

Hey everyone,

I currently a 2nd year in the McCombs school of business and I am planning to Q drop a course for two reasons: 1) it's a non-reqiuired/non-major related business course that I realized I didn't need last week when deciding my actual major 2) If I am lucky I would get a B in the course as a final grade and I don't want that anchoring down my maximum potential of my GPA. If I dropped it I will still be taking 12 credit hours but I was wondering how bad would it look to q-drop a class? Also I can't Pass/Fail the class because the class is offered on a letter grade basis only. This would be my first q drop of my college career and I was wondering is it bad as far as when recruiting and possible future graduate school admissions? Is a q drop the same thing as a Withdraw (W)?

I don’t think it will look bad because a Q-Drop can represent a variety of situations of why it happened, family issues, financial issues(needing a job), and, like you said- you don’t need it for your major.

I am not, however, a graduate admissions officer.
