Hi everyone I was wondering if you think a 3.7+ GPA would be off set and stop me from getting into Mccombs if I have a q drop this semester? I am currently in an introduction to programming class and I absolutely can not stand the work. Do you think it would be ok if I drop it and have a high gpa when the application process comes around? Or do you think the q drop will basically kill my chances. Thanks =)

I’m trying to transfer into McCombs as well. I don’t think a Q drop will hurt you because all it will say is “Q” drop on your transcript…they won’t know you dropped the class because of difficulty. I think all the weight is on having a high GPA and the prereqs knocked out.

So you think that when they see the q drop they won’t think it was because of difficulty?

I don’t think the people who decide over internal transfers will automatically assume you have a “q” because the course was too difficult. There are many reasons someone would drop a course and the reason that Q drops are available are specifically so you don’t kill your GPA from one bad decision. While this is all personal opinion, how would the admissions know that you dropped the course because of family/personal issues? Maybe that class wasn’t part of the curriculum required for your major and you had to drop a class for some unknown reason and that happened to be the class you chose. I’m pretty sure so long as you have the prereqs and a 3.5 or higher GPA, you should be good to go!
