I had to get special permission to enter K201 late, but it has been a huge struggle for me thus far. It's a class where organization and staying ahead of the work is key, and I have done neither particularly well. I also made the poor decision of waiting to submit a graded project until the last minute and the server crashed, which gave me a zero. I have the lecture and lab practical this week and will see how I do on those.

With the zero and extra-credit I have already earned I currently have an A- in the class. If I had to guess, I'd say I will probably end up with a B if I finish out the term.

So my question is how much would a W hurt me in Business honors consideration? Should I stick it out and get the B, or just take the W and try again next semester?

If I was in your situation and I truly wanted to get into business honors, I would stick it out and get the B. After that I’d attempt to retake that class and pull off an A to show Kelley that I truly care about getting into the honors program.

If you have an A- now, and still have two practicums and the midterm and the final to go, I don’t see how you think the best you can do in the class is a B. There are more than enough points left to finish with an A or A-, unless you just are not understanding the content of K201. At least 150 kids who are in Hutton now this year will get an A or A+ in K204; your W will not look good next to their K204 grade, as most of the Hutton freshmen who are Kelley direct admits will probably be applying for honors. Its only one grade, but Kelley puts a lot of stock in technology courses, so a W would probably look pretty bad for honors consideration, unless you balanced it out with great grades in the other classes and have leadership EC’s.

Again, though, I don’t see how you would be out of the running for an A with all those points remaining, especially considering that you have an A- now. 500+ kids will get an A or A+ in K201 this year, as they did last year, too.

I would rather have a B in the class than a W, if applying to honors, although neither will look good as an honors applicant.

Also, I don’t know if you are trying to get into Hutton or are already in, but a “W” would make that impossible if you drop below 14 credits this semester, unless you add some credit hours in the second eight weeks of the semester.

Do you think that a W in an A&H will look as bad as a W in an I-core pre-req? I actually did a lot better on the K201 midterm than I thought, so I am definitely in a good position to get an A. Folklore though, was surprisingly tricky.

I would guess that the professor will curve the grade. Not many classes are easy A’s by the grades at this time of the term. I would guess that professors would rather curve up than curve down the grades. It is probably premature thinking about withdrawing from this course.

Are you taking F101 with Foster? The section gpa for that last Spring was 3.585, which is really high for an introductory class. Foster grades that high every semester. I would not drop until finding out how other people did on the mid term. A lot of kids drop classes when they are actually on course for a decent grade, for instance, missing out on a huge curve that gets added at the end of the semester, like Ace said. This is true of Camp for E370. Also Campbel A325 cost accounting can be a rough semester, but is an easy A- for the people who stick it out.

I’ve seen the grade distributions and quite frankly I don’t understand how it is so high. The people in the class did not do that well on the first test.
