How bad is that W...really?

How bad is a W for a 1 credit freshmen seminar class? I mean I think the college youre applying to will know that you werent failing right? Opinions?????

W means "withdrawal" is placed on your transcript.

it all depends on the school. some colleges REALLY care and some don't care at all.

in your situation, i don't think its bad at all since it's only a 1 credit course.

Make it up with an A. That's the best you can do with a W. Then move on with your life.

W really shouldnt affect you.

now an F, thats another story, i really wish i could go back to my first semester and slap myself before i got that. its the one thing holding me back from getting into Cal :/

ouch man.
I hope it wasn't any core requirement classes like math or english or some major science course (biology, chemistry, physics)...

nah, it was an elective (sociology) and im retaking it right now to cancel out the earlier class.
ive done good in all my other important classes though, so its basically all on my essays to get in...

W is a emergency brake - if your choice is between a W and a C, D, or F, it is often much better to go with a W.

What schools do and don't care about Ws?

At most schools, can't you withdraw from a class before a certain deadline and NOT get the W?

^^ yes but my professors trick the students with easy stuff at the beginning and then transition after the W into harder material. At least in my General Physics class w/ lab.
