how bad will gpa hurt my chances of admission?

hello everyone i am a junior in texas.
my gpa is 2.92 based off freshman and sophmore year.
i plan on applying to ut austin and texas a&m for aerospace engineering

i know that is low but there really wasnt much i could at the time because i have severe sleep apnea so it was rough trying to learn and excel.my crappy doctor never diaganosed me or helped. went to new doctor and i have been diagnosed by him and now im on meds.
and my life is much easier.

but anyways im pushing hard this year all the way. my grades have drastically increased to straight a's. I understand though that there is only so much i can bring up my gpa.I already have a plan because i have to look forward in this kind of situation. I was planning on using my essay c for admission for talking about my constant struggle with my condition. and i probably put a dr.s note

but i want to know how bad is the damage from my gpa and how much do you all think i can raise it by the end of this year? what else can i add to my plan?

Keep up with the good grades, take challenging classes (AP and Honors), get involved in extra curriculars and do well on your SAT/ ACTs and you’ll be fine. You have a viable excuse for your poor GPA and as long as you show you’re a good student you’ll be fine.

UT’s primary admission criterion is class rank. If you are from TX and make the top 7% of your class you are an auto admit.
