Hello, I’m going to be entering my sophomore year of high school, I’m currently in Algebra 2 Honors, I plan on taking Pre Calc over the summer so that I can take AP Calc BC sophomore year, calc 2 honors during my junior year and then I’d go to Penn state during my Senior year for math. One of the guidance counselors is telling me it’s not a good idea to take pre calc over the summer but my current math and computer science teacher think it’s a good idea. I pick up math very fast, and don’t think I’d have any issue covering it in a month. What are your thoughts.
There is no problem with taking extra classes outside of school. A lot of students in my high school take summer school classes to free up or what you are doing by advancing faster. As long as you know what you are doing and are ready for what you want to do then by all means go for it. There is no penalty to taking a summer course. If you don’t do well, then you don’t have to put it on your application to college. Then you can just take the class at your high school. From the sound of it, you are a smart student, so there shouldn’t be a problem with passing. Hope this helps!
