Hi yall, I am at a community college because it is cheaper and I am going to transfer after next year…
I have no friends and I want to make some but how???
I joined two clubs, one meets once a month and the other I didn’t like the people AND they’re all MUCH older than me because they’ve been in community school forever…
What should I do? It’s starting to make me really depressed…
Keep trying other clubs until you find one(s) that work for you, see if you can get involved in an active groups such as student government perhaps, try to talk to people before/after class etc.
Looks like you’re on the right track. One thing you can do is maybe get a campus job. You might meet people that way. CCs tend to be commuter campuses. Meeting people is that much harder than on a residential campus.
Another thing that you can do is to form study groups. You can study together, socialize together, etc.
thanks! I was thinking about starting a club, but i’ll deff try that question idea, there are some people in my classes that I want to make friends with!
@princet2021 is right. They would be glad to have someone talk to them, I bet. They’d be grateful for you to break the ice.
Another thought, since there are probably a lot of commuter students, maybe you could carpool. It would be friendly and it would cut down on gas expenses.
Go ahead and talk to people who aren’t your age. You won’t necessarily become best friends, but experiencing diversity is one of the great benefits of community college.
Work a campus job. A temporary in the bookstore one sorting orders at the beginning of term is low commitment but you’ll spend time chatting with coworkers.
My daughter is a high school student doing dual enrollment. Her cc has a twice a week dedicated club time but clubs don’t meet every week. Due to her schedule she has stayed on the campus for one of the two club blocks each week. She has found by speaking to students in one club that they go to a different club the alternative weeks so she now has a rotation of clubs but many of the same students. I think she does the honor roll society club (she is a member), volunteer club (and sometimes you do volunteer programs with other students), and a business club.
In nice weather she may say to someone in her class that if you don’t have class after this would you like to go eat lunch, go get ice cream etc. She also will ask some people if they want to exchange numbers to double check homework answers. Also you can also try saying if people want to meet a bit before class to go over anything if you notice a group always there a tad early. There may not always be school work to talk about but sometimes it can lead to friendships.
You can ask students in your class if they want to exchange contact info so that you can discuss homework issues.
You could ask what they got as an answer on Question 4.
Is there some kind of student lounge?
