How can you get a volunteer position at a hospital/library over the summer?

<p>I am going to have a lot of free time this summer, so I figured that I should get some volunteer hours. I see that a lot of people on this website, particularly in the chances thread, have had some sort of volunteer work done at a local hospital/library. </p>

<p>How would you obtain of these volunteer positions? Is it through a program or could you simply walk in and state your interest? </p>

<p>I know that this isn't really a "summer program", but I couldn't really decide where this would fit on the CC website.</p>

<p>In our area, you have to apply to volunteer at the local hospitals and library system…then go through training in late spring. By June, those positions are taken.
Call your local library and see if they still need help…same with the hospital. Could be different in your area.
