How class size affect waitlists

So, I'm 9th on a waitlist for a class of 100 kids. How likely is it that I will get the class if I just go to that class and ask the professor if I can take that class?

I'm also #15 on a waitlist with 18 kids. How likely am I to get this class? Probably very unlikely...right....?

Also, I'm enrolled in a class right now with only 8 students out of a possible 108. Is it possible for classes to disappear because there's so few students taking it? Just wondering.

thanks~

Likely, but wait for classes to start – just come to class with a course action form they will likely sign it

Unlikely… sorry

It is possible. They will let you know through email if they decide to do it.

3- Is possible S received e-mail on 08/03 saying class closed lack of interest .
He had to rearrange before the big opening of classes on 08/04/10.
But it all worked out. What he figured is that a lot of drop and add are happening all day long and it is worth being pro-active by checking it regularly.
Good Luck :)

I am currently on a waitlist consisting of 19 students, but the class size is 30 students. The likelihood of me being enrolled is slim to none because I’m #13 on the waitlist. I e-mailed the professor and she said that I could join her in her class, but she is new to UVA and is not sure how SIS works, so I e-mailed the department administrator and have not yet received a reply. Should I just use a course action form?

Also, if I’m enrolled in a class already and it is occurring at the same time one of my waitlisted classes is happening, which should I show up to on the first day (I want a course action form signed)?

If the prof is really going to let you into the class, then why are you still enrolled in the other class? Just show up with a course action form and it will be all fine.

Hey, so what exactly did you e-mail the prof?
something along the lines of “Hi, I’m very low on the waitlist but I would really like to join your class?” :o

cuz I think I might try to e-mail the professor for the class I’m waitlisted in, also.
thanks!

Akunamatata, here was the gist of my e-mail: “I have currently been placed on the waitlist for your Biostatistics class, but I am on the lower end of the waitlist. Is there any other way I can be guaranteed enrollment to Biostatistics? Please allow me to know as soon as possible.”

And here was her reply: "Hi ________,

You are welcome to my class, but I donot know how the assigning procedure works. You can contact Karon in Stat Dept to find out. Good luck!"

And thank you Hazelorb!

It’ll be good to explain a reason why you especially need the class that semester. Also the email/visit combo is good: email them, saying you really want to get into the class (and explain everything there), and ask them if you could stop by their office on monday/tuesday to talk about the possibility of getting in. Profs have a much harder time turning you down in person :)

Rodman, I actually did explain to the professor why I wanted her class this semester, but thank you for suggesting that I go talk to her Monday/Tuesday.
