How close to deadline?

I'm applying to Brown ED and even though it's not rolling admission, I'm really curious if anyone knows if there is an advantage to submitting a week early as opposed to the day before the deadline?

Is it worth it to get totally anal over my essays and submit them a day or two before Nov. 1st, or should I rush to try and get them out this weekend? I think I remember the Brown site said they don't even open apps until after the deadline..but who knows if they're keeping track of when things arrive. I know this is silly but if someone could give me an answer it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

No advantage save one: you avoid the disaster that can occur for many who wait until last minute -- they miss the deadline because something required to be sent by that end date is overlooked until then and they realize there is no way to send it on that last day or they have something occur at 11 p.m. when they are just about to do the email that prevents emailing the app like a computer crash or power outage. Believe me, it happens to far too many people who procastinate and who believe it cannot possibly happen to them.

Ok thanks! So I figure I'll be safe if I do it 2 or 3 days beforehand.

GSN, when you are telling others helping with your applications target dates, try to set them at least a month ahead of the deadline. This way, you know well before the due date that you have everything you need. It might be a big problem if something goes wrong with you two days before the deadline, but if your teacher has a crisis two days before, there is nothing in your power to solve it, and you'll have to live with it. I ended up getting three of my recs a month after my target date and still got them in by the 2 of October, at most a month before deadlines.

Maybe, maybe not. Consider what has to be sent out by app deadline. I do not really know for Brown but things could include: a) rec letters -- your teachers or counselor have to send them, meaning they have to be written (teachers want plenty of time) and then possibly given to counselor to send (which counselor may need several days to get something out, may be sick, etc.); (b) official transcripts to be sent by school (again possibly by counselor) and you may walk in to order it and the administrator behind your high school counter where you order transcripts may say something like it takes a week to 10 days to process the request; (c) ordering official test scores can be an issue; (d) the app likely has a page or pages you must print out and sign and mail and have postmarked by the app deadline. In other words before you decide to just wait find out what it is you actually have to complete before the deadline date.
