Do you invest the money you make from your part-time jobs? Do you have a job or do you get money from your parents or elsewhere? Do you spend it all on necessities such as books, tuition, and food? Or do you spend it on beer and pizza?

I'm curious to see how others get and spend their money.

As for myself, I go out to eat once or twice on the weekends (I'm on-campus and my school doesn't offer meals on Saturday nights), and spend conservatively on nice clothes (I usually save up, wait for a sale at Express, and go with a friend so we can take advantage of those $30 off $100 types of deals).

By the way, if want to learn how to manage your money wisely here are a couple of resources I use:

I don't go out and party as much as I used to since I've started focusing more on my schoolwork and working 2 jobs, so I save quite a bit of money there. My only funding is whatever is remaining from my loan each semester (not much) and paychecks. My parents help pay for school but I'm on my own for spending money, and have been since I got my first job at 14.

My money goes to gas, food/drinks, occasional night out (will probably go out more in a couple months when I turn 21), random dinner & movie trips with friends (2-3x a semester), and some snowboarding day-trips. Right now I'm saving up so I don't have to take out a loan when I sublease in a friends apt this summer and when I have to start paying rent in the fall.

I spend mine on school fees/greek membership fees, sports games ($10 cavs tickets, $1 Indians tickets), concerts. On break I get clothes
Most people I know spend it on alcohol

Most of my money goes towards rent, car insurance, food, and bills (electricity, heat, phone). I shop for things that I want maybe once a month which is usually less then $500 a month.

I've cut back on eating out. I use to eat out with my boyfriend practically every night and that would total a few hundred a week. Plus I'm trying to lose weight.

I have a part time job, which is the only source of my income. I'm lucky it pays so well.

Well, I just spent $2,000 on clothes a couple days ago

god, i wish i could spend $2,000 on clothes..i spend all my money on food, alcohol, random necessary expenses like school supplies/dance shoes/random fees/whatever, and occasionally weed..

I don't work and my parents give me allowance. The money I get is mostly for essentials (gas, books, etc) and I certainly don't spend 2,000 bucks on clothes (i wish!)

I spend fairly rarely, but I don't have a job during the school year so I sort of have to. I have some money set aside from my job during high school and last summer, so I do have cash. I'm planning to get a part-time job next year, though.

Typically, I eat out only on Sunday nights (no dining halls open then) and occasionally spend some money on books or snack food. I don't buy clothes. I also don't drink, so no money spent on booze.

I don't really have time for a job during the semester, but I work over the summers. I also worked in high school, and I saved that money. My parents pay for tuition, books, and some of my groceries. I'm on my parents' credit card account, but I avoid using their card when I can. I go to school in NYC, so even though I don't buy all that much stuff, I still end up paying quite a bit. The only thing I really indulge in is eating out with my friends, but we don't do that too often anyway.

I'm a shopaholic, but I really only go shopping after particularly stressful weeks (when I feel like I 'deserve' it), and even then, I'm a bargain hunter.

I save most of it, but I do have a pretty rigorous beauty plan. I get my nails refilled every two weeks for 21, pedicures about once a month. And I go fake tanning, so that gets pretty expensive over time.

I haven't bought clothes in a long time. I used to go shopping every weekend in high school, but it's just not that important to me anymore. And I never eat outside of the school cafes.

As for alchy, I buy like four forties (12 bucks) for a weekend and I'm good.

Even though I'm 21 now I hardly drink. If I do, it's the occasional glass of red wine (i'm sipping it as I type) and nothing more. A lot of alcoholic beverages taste gross to me and I save a lot of $$$ by not hitting the bars for a round.

Why the **** do college students eat outside so often. What's wrong with the dorm kitchen?

Start with fried chicken.

Take some 0.99/ib chicken thighs or drumsticks, cover with breading flour (I've found a magnificent brand for 3.99 for 80 chicken pieces' worth of breading flour), salt and chili powder and stick in oven at 350F for an hour.

Delicious fried chicken. The cost of chicken dinner is two to five dollars a meal per person, depending on how much you eat per meal.

Then, you could proceed with chicken and onion soup.
Fish congee.
Coconut milk rice.
Vegetable curry.

Bake your own cheesecakes and egg tarts as gifts to your significant others when you feel like treating them ....not only does it look creative and thoughtful, it only costs your pocket 10-15 dollars for the cream cheese, sour milk and eggs (and some flour and sugar) for a 9-inch cake.

Beef flavoring paste can be had at the Asian market for 1.99; if you're feeling slightly luxurious get a pound of frozen shrimp (white farmed) at $5/ib and fry it with ginger and spring onions. It only takes 5-10 minutes (okay, a few more minutes to chop the ginger and spring onions) .... all from the comfort of your own dorm!

Oh I wish I could make more of my own food. The problem? Anything that goes in the fridge (cheese/milk/meat/sour cream/ect) will be iffy in two days. This is, of course, after a bus ride to publix and back that takes my entire friday afternoon. So that means I have to have very individualized portions (even with a boyfriend around most of the time) and usually one meal tops that is fresh. I get beans/pasta/canned food/ ect and such as I hate the cafeteria food but the fridge thing is so frustrating! /endrant

Galoisien, you must be blessed with time but most of my friends and I simply don't have the time to send cooking. We do cook sometimes, but usually by "we cook" I mean "girls bake brownies for the guys and we all eat them while we do homework".
