How competitive is your HS?

This is my first year in a new private H.S, and I have to say that the kids really aren't that competitive. Well not "brutally" and "I will hate you forever if you score 1 point above me on a English quiz" competitive. It's a much smaller school that I go to (freshmen class here has 48 kids and senior class here has 23...) compared to most public H.S. around here that have around 500 kids per grade.

I never thought I'd say this but I actually miss the competition I used to have back in middle school (HAHA). The only person I find myself competing (grade-wise) against is one of my closest friends, because she's one of the smartest girls in my grade. But besides her, I just have to compete against the perfectionist-part of myself .. and sometimes it's just really hard to be so determined to do well when there aren't many competitors around you D:

well...

100% of the kids at my school take at least 4 AP's in two years...

Following a guy through a red light summer before freshman year in driver's ed knocked me from valedictorian to 4th. Went to the best school though.

My school isn't very competitive at all --> its only rich sigh

15th place on Newsweek in our best year. I expect, due to our Class of 2007, that we will do nearly as well (if not better or as well) as that for the 2008 rankings.

It has to do with AP courses, not matriculation to top colleges.

Top 50 by Newsweek currently. Formerly top 10. Very competitive.

My school is so competitive, we're not even on the list... We are just too damn good for the list.

Wow, the students in CC must go to some pretty amazing schools...

the greatest achievement of my school is that we use the same physics textbook as the #1 school according to Newsweek recently :p:D

I always thought my school average at best, but apparently we're just a bit above 100.

Also, we've probably had <3 ivy leaguers in the past 5 years, we do have 1 MIT and 15+ UVA kids though. Last year, probably <10 UVA and 0 ivy leagues.

Not really...My school keeps UF populated...
We only had two people in the top 4% leave the state, one was NYU the other was Furman.

One of my kids goes to a Top 25, the other goes to a school in the low 200s. Both fabulous programs, AP and IB stats notwithstanding.

My school isn't all that competitive, but to be in the top 3% of the class you need at least a 4.4 weighted GPA

southeasttitan diversity how so> judging by your username it seems you are asian unless youre poor and you mean socioeconomic diversity.

Socio-economic/geographic diversity. Southeasttitan and me are in MN :)

Totally uncompetitive.Half the class drops out before senior year.My class is 456 people they expect under 220 to actually graduate. My school sets the bar high.NOT

I hate to break this to you guys but geographic diversity plays a very small role in college admissions. Unless you are in a state like alaska or north dakota.Socioeconomic diversity is something I also plan to use. I go to a public elite but not some rich boarding school so I can still use it as a factor right? I got into the school based on merits not money.

V. competitive, I go to a public elite in NYC (Newsweek's public elite, at least), and in my opinion it's the best one in the city. The thing is, it's not just the academics, I freaking love my high school with a passion. Everything about it just makes me smile.

My school isn't even ranked. We were like 1000 something last year. But this year we're not even on the list

atleast your school got into the 1000 sometime... my school is just regular...
