This is my first year in a new private H.S, and I have to say that the kids really aren't that competitive. Well not "brutally" and "I will hate you forever if you score 1 point above me on a English quiz" competitive. It's a much smaller school that I go to (freshmen class here has 48 kids and senior class here has 23...) compared to most public H.S. around here that have around 500 kids per grade.

I never thought I'd say this but I actually miss the competition I used to have back in middle school (HAHA). The only person I find myself competing (grade-wise) against is one of my closest friends, because she's one of the smartest girls in my grade. But besides her, I just have to compete against the perfectionist-part of myself .. and sometimes it's just really hard to be so determined to do well when there aren't many competitors around you D:

Following a guy through a red light summer before freshman year in driver's ed knocked me from valedictorian to 4th. Went to the best school though.

15th place on Newsweek in our best year. I expect, due to our Class of 2007, that we will do nearly as well (if not better or as well) as that for the 2008 rankings.

I always thought my school average at best, but apparently we're just a bit above 100.

Also, we've probably had <3 ivy leaguers in the past 5 years, we do have 1 MIT and 15+ UVA kids though. Last year, probably <10 UVA and 0 ivy leagues.

Totally uncompetitive.Half the class drops out before senior year.My class is 456 people they expect under 220 to actually graduate. My school sets the bar high.NOT

I hate to break this to you guys but geographic diversity plays a very small role in college admissions. Unless you are in a state like alaska or north dakota.Socioeconomic diversity is something I also plan to use. I go to a public elite but not some rich boarding school so I can still use it as a factor right? I got into the school based on merits not money.

V. competitive, I go to a public elite in NYC (Newsweek's public elite, at least), and in my opinion it's the best one in the city. The thing is, it's not just the academics, I freaking love my high school with a passion. Everything about it just makes me smile.
