I just came to the U.S. in 2008, and i am junior this year. I just signed up for the March SAT and see how well i can do. I did a practice test not long ago, my Math and Grammar are around 600, i believe i will get higher like 650-700 through practice. My goal is 2000. It seems pretty hard for me as reading section is my weakest part. I only get around 450-500. What can i do to get at least 550-600 in reading section. Thank you guys.

We are both in the similar situation and all I can tell you is practice practice practice! Buy the official guide, do it once, twice or more times till you run out of patience.
Reading is important as well if you have more time.

Feel free to PM me if you have further questions.

memorize vocabs!
That’s what I did.
Then, practice reading and answering passages

I am particularly weak in this part, sometimes the passage is just too hard for me, or maybe it is too long that i don’t even remember what i read…

How many vocab should i memorize?

oh… I memorized ALOT. Probably more than necessary…
Many people here seem to recommend direct hits or something…

how well did you do in CR?

450-500 is really good for someone who has been in this country for less than 2 years. Most high school seniors score in that range and they’ve been here since they were born.

but i feel bad to take this score to apply colleges…

This is something you would want to point out, maybe in your personal statement or guidance counselor’s letter. It makes a significant difference in your SAT grade, for good reason, so I would ask your guidance counselor to point it out.

As for improvement, practice is best. Maybe you should ask a teacher or an ESL teacher to help you out because they might have some specific suggestions.

learn to read faster… not other full-proof way to increase CR score.

im a too-young-for-grade-12 senior, so will possibly remain in high school next year (though i feel so done w it)
i just hate to study like a nerd- so i resisted all those techiques in asian pedagogy just to avoid looking nerdy.
also came in 2008
around 650 -700 in cr
always could do better…

well i assume esl=english as a second language, not the esl CLASS which sorta reflects your unreadiness to even speak english
it seems that all my friends memorize vocab crazily, though they dont read much…
i cant judge. i didnt do it myself and i know i would have done better with some cramming
or prep course, tutor, whatever…
the bad thing was that i procratinated on preparing so much that by the time i finished my 3rd sat(for real) i had only finished 2 prcatice tests on the official guide and had not glanced a bit at other test prep books i bought… such a waste of money
im just dumb n childish so dont take my words seriously

btw fidel castro learnt english by memorizing 100 words/day, and many friends of mine are just as intense (if not more)

btw i think Orbit meant “fool-proof”
