I was happy for D1 and felt no feelings of loss or anything negative.
D2 just got engaged this weekend, and I’m also very happy for her. She’s been with her bf for over 4 years and they seem very good together!

Transitions to me can definitely be bittersweet. You are of course happy they’re growing up, living the life they’re meant to live. You may also be a bit nostalgic for life as it was because it’s one more change.
To me, I really felt it when S started preschool. Sure, it was only a few hours but he had been with me virtually 24/7 since he was born.
When he went off to college, it was another transition, but somehow not quite as tough on me as when he started preschool. Go figure.
S has been dating the same woman for 5+ years and they are very compatible. I will likely find it bittersweet if they get engaged/married, as it will be another milestone (though he’s lived away from HI since 2006, except for 2020-2021 due to covid). I will be happy for them and welcome her. He’s 34.
I hope someday D meets a special someone. She’s 32 and never had a serious romantic relationship, though she has many friends and acquaintances.
I certainly think it’s perfectly normal and honest to have mixed feelings at times of transition.
