How difficult is it to transfer?

I am a high school graduating senior who had the unfortune to get rejected form every elite school that I applied to. I am disappointed and yet I am not planning to give up. So I want to trasnfer in my college freshman year. Major in physics, I intend to apply transfer to Stanford. Any suggestions?

oh, by the way, I am going to attend either Stony Brook or Binghamton. My SAT is 1450 and my current average is 92.

i think for most schools they only accept junior level transfers. with your SAT and grades, you should have applied to more match schools.

it's very hard to get into an elite university like stanford as a transfer. i think the admit rates are even less than the normal freshman round. so don't get your hopes up too high.

i suspected that.

It is simply not true that most schools only accept junior transfers, only a few State schools do that. Keep a high GPA and do something extraordinary.

What goes on in CA that everyone only applies to UCs and thinks all schools act like UCs as in allowing appeals and only taking junior transfers?

I thought that because Stanford was way more selective, they would only want junior level transfers. But I was wrong, sorry for my misinformed opinion.

thehammerspake, don't give up! I know somebody who transferred to YALE after spending freshman year at NYU. Yes, it's difficult to transfer to higher-tier schools, but work your butt off where you end up going and keep your fingers crossed :)

P.S. I used to live in Setauket -- my dad taught at SUNY SB! Best of luck.

from what i understand, transfering is actually farely simple. USC rejected me but set up an interview so i can transfer NEXT YEAR. "nearly one third of incoming USC students transer from other colleges" this is what they told me on my rejection letter. "if you wish to apply to begin in the fall term of 2006, you will need to apply shortly after your first semester in college. Successful transfer applicants typically enroll in a rigourous program that mirrors USC requirements, and they earn a strong A-/B+ average in their freshman year."
