How do colleges know the truth?

Do colleges check activities that we do? For example, I have worked at a hotel in the summer but how will colleges verify this? Also, how would they able to check officer positions of clubs?

They trust their applicants, but if you’re caught lying, they’re going to sic an eagle on your liver for the next 100 years.

With clubs, they can contact your school/club advisor to confirm if you’ve held leadership positions.

I had a friend who lied on her college app to NYU last year and got caught. She listed herself as the president of key club and the admissions office called the club’s advisor to confirm. Not only was she not president of the club, she wasn’t even a member.

So, in other words, they can call. (the place you worked at should have your records/remember you if you were legally allowed to work at that time)

I hope that helped! : )

Anything like Key Club or Honors Society you you shouldn’t lie about because, at least I believe, you have to be a registered member. If you have school clubs or organizations, there is a little leeway for “white lies” but it’s NEVER a good idea to because when you get your teacher recs/high school report there can be conflicting details. Also, if you are going to lie, don’t make yourself sound like the messiah of your school because there might be someone else who was actually the Student Body President and now you both have that listed there. That one lie can not only eliminate you but the other person also.
