How do free SAT score reports work?

The first time you register for the SAT, you get four free score reports, right? If you choose not to send them when you register, do you lose the opportunity to send free reports? Also, if you take the SAT in your sophomore year, will the colleges you chose keep track for another 1-2 years?

You can use the free reports until about 10 days after you take the test. For example, the Jan 22 score allows you to use 4 free score reports until today (Jan 31), I believe… You cannot use them once the scores are out, though, which is a HUGE bummer ):

You should wait until at least senior year to send your scores. That way, the schools can have a file to put in your scores and application materials. Sending scores during your soph year is, IMO, too soon.

thanks a lot, it just seems dumb that they make you send your scores before you know what they are

I know. If you want to see your scores before you send them, you have to pay ): ugh

Quite the opposite of dumb–from College Board’s perspective. CB can honestly say that every student who takes the test gets to send 4 score reports for free, but they also know that kids from families in comfortable circumstances who are applying to selective schools won’t use them. Those kids will pay retail for all their score reports, instead of all but four of them.

If you are using the free ones for your second taking of the SAT, it also sends your first ones, right? I recall it saying it will send all of your scores.
