There were a group of colleges I applied to. One I took a summer course at (2 week long) and it was a pretty nice school and at one point, my first choice. I became somewhat known by the deans and stuff, I guess. I received birthday cards, and other nice things from them. Tee shirts, etc. They really liked me. They texted me too, asking about my decision. Basically, I didn’t commit there because of some non academic related reasons and chose my 2nd choice of school which had slightly worse academics but a much better social aspect and better location (reasons why I turned down my first choice). I plan on going to my 2nd choice for 4 years, then go to grad school at the first choice. How do I tell the first choice that I won’t be going? SHould I tell them at all? THanks,
You just go to the portal and decline the acceptance. If you do not do that by May 1 they will assume that you will not be attending.
Many schools have a way to decline in the portal. A few don’t. You can also send a note to admission saying you will not be attending. No reason or explanation necessary. But without a deposit by May 1 schools will assume you’re not attending.
They know a certain percentage say no and they are professionals.
