I have a friend at the Academy (a plebe) that I wish to do a CVW "with". I have searched the forums, actually I havn't because the search feature doesn't work, and I have checked the USNA site...and I still can't find a link to where I can sign up for a CVW. Any help? How old do I have to be? Thanks for the help.

USNA has to invite YOU, David. You can't ask to go. They send invites to candidates for the incoming class - and if you ask us all - we can't tell you the whys and wherefores of how they choose to invite people. Some get invites and no Appointments, some get Appointments and no invites.

If you are a high school senior, waiting on the class of 2010 Appointment, it's probably too late to expect a CWV now. If you have your NASS application in for 2011, you are in the admissions cycle already, and as your application gets completed for the Class of 2011, come fall ( our daughter got her invite Sept. 28th and her LOA Oct. 3 last year) you may get a CWV. God Bless and good luck

(Sheepishly raising hand from the back of the class)

Um, our son asked his BGO to set up a CWV and it happened in short order. He had already received his appointment, but wanted to visit before accepting, so he just asked and within a week he had his invitation. He attended the Feb. 04 CWV. You're right, Peskemom, that we just don't know how the invitation roster works, but we generally go with the "nothing ventured..." philosophy. Crazy Alaskans...

momof1...I would bet your son's appointment in hand was his 'ticket' - but in Dash-9's case, without an appointment, I wonder if the BGO could pull it off???

and sheepish ole mom...thanks for raising that hand HIGH! :-)

Yeah, I asked my BGO about getting into a CVW during my senior year. He tried, but couldn't get me in. I ended the year with no invite, no NASS, and no appointment.

This time I got an invite and will be there next weekend (7th and 8th)! Still no appointment though...

I did not receive an invitation, so I asked my BGO to request one for me. I did not have my appointment either. My regional director asked what date worked best for me and gave me a spot in one of the openings. I think the success of getting an invite after asking depends on how much room they have for you.

USNA will only set up a CVW if you look like you are competitive for an appointment. They send out invites if you look competitive really early on. The later in the year, the easier it is for admissions to know whether you will get an appointment (so the harder it is to come to CVW if you dont have an offer towards the end of the year). If you want to come just call your RD and see what they say- it can't hurt. The folks in the admissions office make the decisions....not the BGOs.

Spider asked the regional admissions director about a visit when he was interviewed by her here in Dallas in mid December. They gave him an email address and said to let that person know which date would work best. We had an answer back the next day.

Spider has no appointment, but does have a Foundation scholarship. His visit is next weekend. See you there dmeix!

Dash-9 is a junior if I recall. Dash-9, you will need to wait about 6 months before even the possibility of a CVW invite. Sorry, but welcome to the long USNA admissions process.

I just found this great site last night and wish we had had it al along! My son received his CVW invitation September 28th and went in November. We almost couldn't get him in the car to come home!

In January he was offered a guaranteed offer of appointment..... "all" he needs is a nomination. We are in Midlothian Virginia and were told early on that the nomination process in this area is very competitve.

In February, his Regional Director at the Academy wrote "Upon reviewing of your record, I note that we have sent you a conditional offer of appointment; but at this point, you do not have a nomination. I wanted to know if you are still interested in coming to the academy. " We have heard nothing since.
I would appreciate any wisdom/encouragment/frank replies.
Thanks!
