How Do I start the Transfer Process?

Hi, I am currently a Freshman in the City College of New York Honors Program. I want to apply to two schools as a transfer applicant for Fall 2013, Columbia and NYU. How do I start this process? Whom do I speak to at my current college? My honors advisers seem really nice, and I don't want to get them angry. When should I contact my high school for my transcript, and when should I ask professors for recommendations? The application for Columbia is due March 1, and NYU is due April 1. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR ADVICE AND EXPERTISE! THANK YOU :)

The earlier you do things, the better. On the schools website click on transfer students, or transfer admissions.

Don’t ask for LORs until you’ve finished this semester, you need to give profs some time to evaluate your work before they agree to write you a letter.

Do, however, at least get started on the essays.

Thank you all for your responses, but I still don’t who to ask in my college if I want to transfer?

Who fills out the College Official’s report varies with the school. Good places to start are by asking your advisor or at your Departmental office if you have a major.

Thank you Entomom, is the College Official’s Report from CommonApp, and do you know when I should give that to them?

Yes, you can download it from the CA website. It can be submitted anytime before the deadline, colleges will keep all parts of your application until complete.

Would you recommend that I meet with the dean or my science department major after the first semester is over?
