So I run a club at my school which talks about news stories, and we don't have a great turn-out. Main reason being that people here only care about their FB profile and prom (even though they have good GPAs). I can't bring food anymore, and idk about extra credit,so any tips?
Many thanks

I’m in a very similar situation (<3 engineering club <3; started fall 2012). Tell people about the club; that’s how I found out about the engineering club. Also, we had fundraisers and t-shirts. Those provoked the question, “We have an engineering club?”. We did a demonstration at a school band concert before the show. We are also considering making flyers this year. There are lots of ways to gain publicity.
Nevertheless, people still might not join, even after being informed of the club. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Just try to get people to know about the club and see what happens from there. If they’re not interested, there’s not much you can do.
Our club is pretty pathetic; there are only five members including myself. Most of the members, including the president, vice president, and secretary, stopped showing up. Hopefully, your club will have better luck. No matter what happens, be patient. If you really like the club, don’t let it die no matter what! Keep the club alive until the day you graduate!

“I’ll join your lousy club if you join my lousy club.”

I’ve never founded a club. (I cofounded one once, but it wasn’t at school and it sort of failed anyway.)

That might be a little too specific. What’s the club called, and could you make it more general so it would have a wider appeal?

If your school has a lot of CCer types, stress the possibility of leadership positions people could write on their college apps. :D

well said man.

just get your friends to join and tell them to get one of their friends to join. harass people, it works

Well, my club has the word ‘gay’ in it, so it attracts people no matter what. Otherwise, flyers and word of mount seem to do the trick.

Couldn’t have said it better

Starting a Debate Club at my high school this fall. I have 10 people mildly interested (I’m guessing just for the resume boost mainly).

How do I get them to stay interested in debate if we don’t even have any competitions?

I hope it doesn’t die out. Perhaps I can do school announcements, t-shirts, hall posters, etc.? How much does publicity really help?

Lol, I’m imagining people just adding “gay” to the beginning of their club name in an attempt to attract members.

Bribes of food and candy

At my school we have an open house the Thursday before school starts. It’s where students (mostly freshmen) and their parents meet their teachers, are given supply lists and textbooks, etc. In the cafeteria representatives from the clubs in my school set up booths during this time and pass out informational flyers and such (candy lol) and they have sign up sheets there. Maybe you could suggest something like this to your school’s administrators?
