I don't, I actually haven't even thought about it until this thread.

Crap..

i plan to decorate my flat with african carvings, drums, a french flag, busts of John Milton and Homer, painting materials, and some mice (in a container of course)

Oak panelling, an authentic 17th century handwoven rug from the subcontinent, full-size busts of Schiller and Descartes on marble pedistals, a library of first editions and a roaring fireplace.

i got union posters, che guevara posters, sublime, bob marley, a big pot leaf, pictures, and a cal flag.

Not really on topic, but Che Guevara is not a man to idolize.

he is for me bro, everyone's got different ideals, and i think putting yourself up for a cause greater than yourself is a great thing to emulate.
I know alot about this subject, and yes, he was a human, flawed, rigid, and at times cold, but revolutions aren't pretty. so believe me it's not out of ignorance or trend that i'm a Che fan, but because i think a new kind of man is possible.

I can understand that, I just personally cannot idolize a man who caused so many deaths.

^ and yet so many idolize presidents....

I understand that dood. That was a time where weapons seemed like the only way out. Latin American governments with US support had no problem killing innocents, too, and so many presidents have done the the same.

today's a different time though:
today, as fidel castro said in a speech a few years ago, "the time when weapons solved problems is over, a new period has begun in which the people's political consciousness, historic needs, and ideas will change the world."
and for me, El Che had a stubbornness for ideas that i wish people would have more of.

thanks for understanding.

movie posters: v for vendetta, talladega nights, good night and good luck

-Alpha

damn.. I don't have any posters.. I had never even thought about decorating.. so I guess I'll just bring along a few family and friend pictures. I suppose I'll also buy a few band posters

It's all about the colors.

My dorm last year had a bright orange flower comforter (hell yeah target), black checkered and pink sheets, road maps of different areas of the world (Spain and Portugal, France, England), world map, Tibetan prayer flag, bright yellow flowers in the bed posts, countdown til Bush is out calendar, my Oaxacan wood carving collection, my elephant collection, and pictures of my friends and dog backed on colorful construction paper.

And also a huge Johnny Depp poster. :)

Next year I have a single so lots more wall space to decorate. I've already some free roadmaps of Boston and Massachusetts that I'm going to cover one wall with and mark up with T stops, stores I like, and driving routes to get places. :)

I basically just put up pictures from The Economist. Some of the ads are interesting. A zebra chasing a tiger, a seed evolving into a tree, bulls chasing people in Spain. I have some cartoon depictions (a lot of political ones-- like a two-faced elephant), photos from news features (French protests, bicyclists in China, a donkey used as mode of transportation, among others), and the cover illustrations ("France faces the future" with the rooster). One part of my wall is covered with Amnesty International urgent action stuff, another by important Economist articles. My desk is covered in personal photos. Above my mirror are tasteful pictures of people I like including Obama, Rahm Emmanuel (lol, my friend was like what?!), fashion stuff. I'm not sure what my room is gonna be like next year, but I didn't really try to decorate last year. I just posted a bunch of things on the wall.

^ My best friend has pictures of Rahm Emmanuel all over, as well as all of the Kennedys. And also a big cardboard cutout of West Berlin- do not ask me why...

My room has a Spartan theme.

lol, Slorg.

So far I've got a color scheme set up for my portion of the decor (since I'm in a double). It's all based around this cute, sort of 70s style throw pillow for my bed. It's dark brown with kind of a trippy pattern of interlocking pink and green rectangles on it. Sounds ugly, but. Whatever. I like it. So, my bedding is off-white with different shades of green rectangles on it. Not exactly matching, but stickin' with the theme. I also got a small dark brown folding table. I have to find some more salmon/pink stuff to tie it all together. Maybe I'll cover my lampshade with some fabric or something, lol.

Can you tell I'm into interior design? It may be "just a dorm room", but that doesn't mean we can't get all creative and get really into it! :)

I also gottt...a string of Christmas lights with little plastic horses on them (since I'm an Equestrian Studies major, lol), a world map, a Clark Gable poster, a couple of free horse posters from magazines, a Kenny Chesney poster, some large versions of my photography prints, and, of course, lots and lots of different types of storage things.

i think procuring busts is expensive, so i'll try to hang paintings that i will produce myself. i'm completely against posters; they seem so cheap and make ur room childish.

i always wanted a glass room with opaque greek letters surrounding it; just like the VATICAN (except latin is inscribed on the friezes).

also, a glass chess set; a white grand piano (an ADAGIO), a white cello and of course...the portrait of myself next the to the bust of ALEXANDER THE GREAT. some more eastern themes like calligraphy, rugs, precious stones and metals will clutter about...but that day is not near. right now, i'm still turning into the half-starving, ragged-looking bachelo artist living on a tiny flat in la commuting to ucla.

oh, i forgot to mention that i have a huge Ron Burgundy bust from a movie theater standee (where I used to work) that adorns my bed. It's quite frightening when it's the first thing you see in the morning...yet awesome.

-Alpha

Well, I don't really have a "dorm" as a commuter but I have my own basement that is essentially a "dorm on steroids" and I'm going to be decorating it (finally!) this week.

A long time ago I got some black and white posters of famous folks from Apple Computer (during the Think Different ad campaign). I framed the Albert Einstein, Miles Davis, and Jim Henson ones and may do the same with James Watson. I'm hanging these up above my TV and maybe in other places as well. I'm also looking for the Jackie Robinson one.

I have Roy Lichtenstein's "Maybe" hanging up already. It provides a nice touch to one of my walls. I may get another Lichtenstein someday as well; he's my favorite artist. Wouldn't mind having a Warhol either.

Above my desk will be a frame I got for the metals I earned in band. They were done in the same fashion as my grandfather's army metals as far as presentation is concerned. I'll probably also hang up my excellence in C++, JAVA, and BASIC certificates that I've earned over the years, maybe a few others as well.

I've got a few American flags scattered around my place as well. There's one on my bookshelf, one on my desk, and a few I haven't hung up yet. There is also a shelf of bobblehead dolls above my desk.

As far as my bed, I have a blue plaid down comforter. It's a Polo Ralph Lauren that I got at the outlet.

I should mention that all of my posters are framed. You can get frames pretty cheap at Michael's or a similar store. A poster on the wall with tape looks classless to me, a poster up with a frame looks great.

I don't have any movie posters and probably won't ever--I'm just not that into movies. And I refuse to ever have a naked woman poster on my wall. They are the most untasteful things ever. So many college guys have them up and it just tells me they have no respect for women.

^Glad to see not all guys are idiots! I mean, what a way to get a girl. Invite her to your room only to have her look at naked women? Right. On another note, we're not alowed to use tape to put up our posters. It's all about double sided sticky squares. You can get them at staples. It helps make the space look a lot cleaner.

Anyways, dorm decorating is pretty fun. I had almost no spare wall space last year! But white walls are boring, so thats okay. :)

Posters:
Gone With The Wind
The Great Gatsby (book poster from the Victoria and Albert Museum)
Vintage Map of the New York City Subway Lines
Warhol x 2 (one with Marilyn Monroe and the other with daisies)
Vintage French Style Posters x 2 (one large ad for a parfumerie and one smaller one that says "absinthe")
Map of the World
We Can Do It!
American Anti-Soviet Propaganda (Is your washroom breeding bolshevics?)
University Calendar (dry erase)
and a ton of calendar and postcard size pics of Paris in black and white

Other:
Magenta/Pink Bedspread from Zara Home, a large fuzzy white pillow and a two smaller purple ones with beadwork (they match the bedspread), a bulletin board with pics from home

Best thing about my dorm this year - no roomate! I had a randomly assigned one last year who was my polar opposite in more ways than decorating. She had completely bare white walls on her side and to top it off - a spongebob pillow. Not cool.
