obviously i want my room to be pretty,
but there are some many restrictions like not painting the walls or hanging things from the ceiling,
that i dont know what to do!

sure,
i could hang like,
posters or whatever,
but i want something more...creative? i guess

When I was in college, one of my dorm mates had a collection of vintage hats that she displayed on a folding peg type rack. Also, graphic scarves look great.

You could hang up a poster that says "BEST FRIEND EVER"
Hey listen
Im sorry I was such a hoe (excuse my language (inside joke)) yesterday. Its just that my dad got me really upset as well. U didnt deserve all the things I said to u. I would call u, but theres a good chance you might be in bed. lol
I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! MUAH!!!!!!!LOL

As for your room I'll get you something cool with the h word on it. lol
Call u tomorrow!

At my BS, attended back in the height of the hippy era, an assortment of Indian "bedspreads", hung from all four walls and the ceiling, were the thing. These can still be found, and are often inexpensive. A pleasing and peaceful way to rock the casbah.

If you can get to a Target store I'm sure you can find all kinds of inexpensive ideas. Don't forget - one of the most important pieces in decorating is a rug.

i saw this thing on the internet
where someone used wrapping paper as an accent in her daughter's college dorm room...
it actually looked pretty cool...

i'm putting posters up... and a lot of them (but i currently only have 2)
it was the wierdest thing.. i went to FYE and they were selling 8 dollar posters for a penny each! i was amazed! but i had to go so i couldn't pick out any more... so tip, go there they might be selling htem cheaper ther :)

I have kind of sophisticated tastes in decor. I'm really into french and english interior design, so I'm a little worried about getting along with my roommates tastes. I'm a lot less into posters and that sort of thing, more into artwork, so we'll see how that works out. I won't be really bummed if my roommate wants metallica posters all over the place, but if i had it my way i wouldn't go that route. : /

I didn't bring any decorations when I went and half way through the fall term my walls were covered with funny little signs and physch notes and things like that. another cool idea is tin foil on the walls in small sections...makes the room look bigger... then of course posters always help. Save funny cards you get, fortune cookie sayings and things like that...you want it to be a collection of you as well as a reflection

Yup, same here. Any little notes or cards or letters or postcards I got throughout the year and other little things like my numbers from horse shows got put up on my walls.

Fabric is a really good idea. For accenting everything.
You can do things like outlining a whiteboard on your door with fabric, putting it on top of your table and dresser. If you have time you can make curtains, if you already have curtains you can make tiebacks. You can make bows and tie them around door handles and bedposts etc..
Just go to the fabric store and find some bulk cheep cute patterned or colored fabric and go from there.

My suggestion would be to wait until you've been at school a few weeks, particularly if you're going to be sharing your room with someone. It helps if you can coordinate with your roomie. Also, it will give you an idea of how big your room is, what the space looks like, etc. Finally, you may have some restrictions on what you're allowed to do.

Depending on the size of your room, there are lots of things you can do to make it more comfortable/personal. Posters, pictures from home, a nice rug on the floor (if dorm doesn't have carpeting) a bean bag chair or love sack (if you have room), curtains, pillows/quilts. When I was in college we could rent mini-refrigerators for the year, which was nice to have. I think most boarding schools won't permit this - although at Choate I believe senior proctors are allowed to have fridges as kind of a special privilege.

Since everyone is making the point that decorating/buying is ill advised until meeting your room mate, when will we find that out? I expect each school varies, but any estimate is good (I'm attending Exeter by the way).
