How do you remain alive after staying up late?

Don't let your body dictate how you're feeling. Know you can get your work done and still function fine the next day. I often stay up pretty late with schoolwork/college apps, but I go to sleep saying how I'm going to feel good and alert when I wake up, and that's what I get.

Nope, not really at all; very rarely do I have any HW that cannot be done during study hall, and I'm fairly adept at using my time well so whenever I have some overlap I tend to be able to finish it quickly. Oh, and when I do have HW, I always do it in the morning, and not at night -- this morning, for example, I got up at my usual time (4) and read the canterbury tales for today's lit class.

FOr the people who go to bed before 12 almost everyday, do you have lots of hard classes? no offense

I don't have difficult classes, I'm a sophomore with a decent curriculum. But I know plenty of juniors/seniors that sleep at 10/11 everyday 7~8 hours with like 6 AP's without any problems. It's a matter of time management, really, and doing certain subtle quirks in different areas that normal people wouldn't venture into. That's how I sleep 9~10 hrs daily (more on weekends) and have like 5 hours of free time daily.

Put on some loud music and take a steaming hot shower. And by hot I mean as hot as your skin can handle
It definitely kicks in faster than any caffeinated drink (coffee, tea, etc) AND it's not terrible for you! The week of finals I usually take like 4 showers a day to keep up lol

Or, on the other hand, take an ice-cold shower! Or jump in a pool or something, I think it has more to do with the temperature extremes than one extreme over another (mimics pain, maybe, which causes adrenaline/endorphin rush, which might wake you up, or maybe it floods your CNS with info; I dunno, just conjecture really)

It's not allll a matter of time management.... I mean sure, I do procrastinate sometimes and I hate myself for it the next morning. However, there were times last year when I went straight to my room after school (no distractions in there) and didn't finish my hw till 1 or 2.

I agree with circum...I have 8 classes, plus clubs after school and practice until 6. I literally don't get home until at least 6:30 each night. And most of my homework just takes time to complete: I can have a worksheet straight from the book, but I still have to spend half an hour finding the answers. I usually get to sleep around 11/12, and I'm still exhausted.

My sophomore year I got like about 5 or 6 hours of sleep every night..I procrastinated a lot though so that was the reason behind that.

As a junior I have pulled like 2 all-nighters...the other night because I had an SAT class AND a project due the next day. It's only the extreme cases, usually I get like 6 hours..7 if I'm lucky because I'm taking 6 classes so I can sleep in until 8 =).

But it all really comes down to your time management skills. I'm glad I'm going through this now though, because when I go to college I'm going to be able to have fun and do my work because I will know how to manage my time. But you can't always avoid all nighters...they really suck. You're immune system shuts down and you get sick, so try to get as much sleep as you can. Junior year and senior year are tough! Good Luck!

It's still time management. There is no excuse here. That means you either can't finish the work in time, you can't concentrate, and so on. It's obvious that a HS teenager isn't expected to work all day deprived of sleep 24/7. If you do get that much hw, enough to go home straight from school and work until 2 am straight (which by HS law that kinda thing shouldn't happen), you can't handle the work and so you should be dropping out of some classes and activities.

Doing unrealistic stuff like, say, 12 AP's + 3 Sports and etc and never having any time even with godstatus time management doesn't mean it's not about time management, it means it's unrealistic.

I'd probably consider that somewhat hogwash, too. I know many people with 6~8 AP's, great EC's, college courses, in short, busy people that get 7 hrs of sleep a night minimum.

For me though, eh, I'm probably less busy because I only have 1 AP and I often don't do my homework. But nowadays that I'm doing quite a bit of hw, it's all at school...so when I get home at 3 I have 6~7 hours of freetime in games, movies, nap(s), music, and friends until I go to bed at 9/10.

^ wow. first of all, it's really unfair for you to judge my situation, especially when you admittedly have no experience with taking a ridiculous course load AND doing ECs. I can't get work done at school because I don't have a study hall/homeroom/etc. Every HS is different. AP Bio in one HS can be a piece of cake, while in another HS can be a GPA killer.
Secondly, there is no HS Law, whatever that's supposed to mean.

Last year, ALL the kids in my AP Lit class had several nights when they stayed up until 1-2.
No, it wasn't a matter of waiting until the last minute to do the work; it wasn't not being able to concentrate (20+kids all having concentration problems? I don't think so).
The reason why everyone had to stay up late was because my teacher would assign things like "read a 30 pg. story from lit textbook and answer 40 questions" and have it due the next day. While that assignment alone does not take all night, that assignment PLUS hw from every other class does take all night.

Hogwash. You don't necessarily have to had the same experience yourself to make an observation. Plus, the testimonies of many, many people I know and the people I see and do daily probably makes me able to "judge" you.

Oh no, Sherlock, really? Every HS is different?

Which leaves me to my next point: I highly doubt that your teacher would randomly in one night say, "Oh do like 5 hrs worth of work". I don't think HS teachers are dumb enough to assign killer-loads of work, and if they do, it's either you're overloading yourself with too many courses and doing EC's, you're putting the burden on yourself and saying that you have no time. Quite obviously signing yourself up for 17 hrs of stuff daily and being busy all day does not indicate that "it's not about time management".

You basically chose all those difficult classes to take and many EC's. If you can't handle it, that's your problem, don't blame time management. And as I've said, many I know with 7 AP's, college courses, EC's, and stuff get 7 hrs of sleep a night. I'm really doubting everything here...

Okay fine, don't believe me. It's ridiculous to argue w/someone who will never know anything about my life other than the stupid posts I've made on CC.

Just search on here and you'll find hundreds of students who do the "7 AP's, college courses, EC's, and stuff" and don't get 7 hours of sleep a night.

As for my teacher, last year was her first year at my school. About half the parents in my class talked to my school's administration about the workload she expected students to handle.

And since I don't have the luxury of being able to "handle my work" or "manage my time" like you, I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince you to see things differently.

8 oz of water + one packet of crystal light energy mix = energy for morning
repeat at lunch for practice

i sleep in class and i still maintain that 4.0+ GPA.

i sleep in class 2 even if i get enough sleep

i think that drinking coffe isnt such a good idea because it leaves a bad breathe and gets our teeth yellow. instead try jogging a little or eating candy and chocolate i always work or even laughing wakes you up.
