Student transferring from community college to start his Junior year this Fall at a small LAC located in the suburbs of a large city. Looking for an internship for next summer (between Junior and Senior years). Double majoring in accounting/marketing. College doesn't have much of a career center and certainly no job fairs that attract lots of potential employers. Does have the advantage though of location near a big city and lot's of corporate offices in the same and surrounding suburbs. Great grades from community college. Has been working for the past year in the admissions office of the community college and prior to that in retail and food service starting at age 16. When should this student start his job search for next summer and how should he go about it? Just sending out resumes just seems so futile given the competition, but given the anticipated lack of help from the college, what is a better way to approach the search? Is just showing up in person at the potential employer's office and expressing an interest and leaving a resume a viable approach?
