Okay here's my predicament. I got a high lottery number but I'm sure ill get housing for honors. However my friend got an okay lottery number which might qualify for a suite.

The special programs housing sign up is this week while the suites are in a month. If I sign up for honors housing and than the suites later on, and if I do get in both. Will I be forced to go into honors housing? Can someone clarify the process a little bit. Thank you.

I understand the dilemma you are enduring right now – you skip out on guaranteed housing, but take a risk and end up not being eligible for a suite.

Two questions:

(1) What is your friend’s lottery number (you don’t have to give me an exact if you want to keep it private – just like “600s” or something like that)?
(2) What is your lottery number?
(3) Which type of housing are you preferring at the moment? Do you want to live with your friend in a suite or are you keen to the honors housing?

The thing is, I’m not sure if Rutgers would allow you to accept the honors housing and cancel the contract once you figure the suite situation. Sorry, I tried looking on the housing website for any information regarding canceling your housing choice during the lottery process and had no luck. Perhaps it would be wise if you email someone in housing about this question.

Depending on your friend’s lottery (I was going to compare his number to the cutoff last year), I don’t know if I would risk such a thing. I’d take the honors housing. It would suck to be left with nothing in the end and be placed in the Crowne Plaza or something.

Hi MushaboomBlue - it’s been a while since I posted. My son is really happy at Rutgers, and very much enjoyed Marching Band & PEP band. The MJ show was great. I have a question that we haven’t seen addressed re the housing lottery and I’m wondering if you know this - which takes precedence - if you have six honors students in McCormick trying to get back into a suite for next year, with the lowest number between 4000 and 5000, or if you don’t have six and have a very low number - below 30. Thanks for the answer if you know.

I’m doing the honors housing (tomorrow) and they have a separate lottery. Just get there on time and I’m pretty sure you pick new numbers there. I’m pretty sure the dean wants round numbers like 2, 4, or 6, with 6 being the best; regular housing lottery numbers also don’t really have much to do with this but are good in case they just get blocked out of getting the suite for next year.
