How does UF evaluate transfer credit?

How and when does UF evaluate transfer credit. I would like to know which credits they will take from my previous university. I will have 72 credits by the time I enter UF in the summer although, I understand they will only take 60. How do I know which 60?

You’ll be able to tell through your degree audit. But by completing your AA all of your general education requirements will be met, and anything that was a pre-req for your program will transfer.

wait what?!?! We can only transfer over 60 credits? I am a dual enrollment student with 72 credits but not all of those will transfer over?

Nope. You only get 60. I had 90 when I transferred so that sucked, haha.

Because I’m coming from an OOS University I don’t have an AA. Typically when do they update degree audits…mine still is “unavailable”.

Ohh ok. Yeah I’m not sure how it works with oos university credits. It takes them a while to evaluate but when they do it’ll show up under your degree audit. I don’t remember exactly how long it took them for me but I know they have to have it done prior to your orientation because obviously you need that info in order to register for classes.

Okay so how would this work out? Like for grades. since only 60 credits transfer over, do we get to pick which 60. also, what if we got a B in a class but we dont want that credit to be transfered over because we have A’s in all the rest. Would this B still be factored into our UF gpa?

UM I’m not entirely sure how it works with the dual enrollment thing, but as a transfer none of my transfer credits counted towards my UF gpa. So in other words I got to start with a clean slate for my UF gpa which is only based off the classes I’ve taken at UF.

sweet cause I wanna do medschool but was freaking out with 2 classes im taking this semester cause I may get a B in them :/

So they finally did update my degree audit, and on the audit, it looks like I almost have nothing done for my major, even though I obviously have. All the courses I have taken are shown, with a prefix and a 000 at the end. Is this how it looked for you guys? It seems like they are going to have me take the same courses I already took and have credit at my other university for in regards to my major as well as basic requirements like english, which I already completed requirments for. Is this how the transfer credit normally works? I added up what they claim I have not completed and its about 85 credits, althought I have 72 credits and they are allowing me to transfer 62 credits according to the degree audit.

You do not have to retake any classes that you have received college credit for.

Thanks for the info. But why does it show like I never took them. For example, it says I need 6 credits of english and the requirement has a red “X”, but I took 6 credits of english at my current university and the classes are listed at the bottom of the page as “other credits”. Is the degree audit just stating that I didn’t take them at UF or is it saying I need retake the credits for graduation?

Your GPA does start over once you are at UF, but you would have to send the med school all of your school’s transcripts so they’d see that grade anyways so that GPA still counts.

If you took Freshman Comp I and II or the equivalent you will not have to retake them. There could be something wrong with how they allocated your credit.

He’s an OOS university transfer. Florida has specific requirements that in state colleges/cc’s align with… it’s obviously going to be very different for OOS schools. I would suggest trying to make an appointment with your college’s adviser to further discuss the transfer credits. Sometimes after meeting with them they will work with you more than originally reflects in admissions initial evaluation of your credits.

It looks like UF recognizes my credits, but will not take them to fulfill requirements. I think its really silly that they are doing this, the classes are exactly the same and we even use the same textbooks here as I will use over at UF. I emailed an advisor to look into this, because it looks like I need 85 credits to graduate, but technically already have 74 according to UF. So in reality I will have taken 159 credits for a 120 credit degree and I would have to complete it all in 2 years. This is getting a little ridiculous.

Hopefully the adviser will help you. I had a friend who transferred and even though it was from an in state CC he still had a few things that were showing up unfulfilled and once he met with his adviser she was really good about using whatever she could to fulfill those requirements with stuff he had taken.
