Is that whole "add two zeros to the end of your PSAT score" valid?

If I didn't do that great on my PSAT, is that an indicator I won't do great on my SAT? My mom said that her friends all tell her that SAT scores won't differ much from your PSAT score (after you add two zeros) and she think I won't do well because of that.

How does your PSAT score relate to your SAT?

[Let me google that for you](<a href=“LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You”>LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You)

And you will find a plethora of links to threads asking the exact same question.

Suppose you scored a 50 in the math on the PSAT. Then, yes, if you took an SAT soon after, your score would be close to 500 (I think you meant “add one zero”). That is the value of the PSAT: it is meant to give you a good idea of where you are on the SAT.

But many people prepare for the SAT and don’t prepare (or prepare little) for the PSAT. Also, you’ll have more math in school between the PSAT and SAT. For these reasons many people score better on the SAT than what their PSAT scores would directly predict. No reason why you couldn’t as well.

@Fat_Nerd: Thanks.
@fignewton: Yes, sorry, I do mean 1 zero. I did lots of practice tests for the PSAT… and on those, I’ve scored pretty good scores, but on the actual one, I realized that I made lots of stupid mistakes, and that’s what costed me the grade that I’ve been making on my practice ones. So what else would you suggest for me to prepare in addition to practice tests?

I guess it was somewhat indicative… But I got a 201 on PSAT and a 2160 on SAT

There’s nothing wrong with mining fresh data, as this thread is doing :)!

Anyway, I don’t know my PSAT/SAT correlation … ask me on Feb. 16th :D?

@Swimfreak001: You did better on your SAT then? That’s good!
@IceQube: I will (: Good luck with the SAT!

It really depends on the amount of preparation done. The PSAT Writing does not include an essay- a big reason why there are discrepancies between PSAT Writing/SAT Writing. The stamina required for the PSAT and the stamina required for the SAT are also two very different things.

Note, of course, that proper studying and practice corrects these issues.
