How indicative is your SAT score to your PSAT score? Based on the difficult and format, should your PSAT score be higher?

They expect you to score 50-100 points higher on the SAT than the PSAT, but I scored the same because I was dumb and didn’t realize how difference the SAT was from all my other tests. If you study, practice, and develop good strategies/test taking techniques your SAT score should be higher.

I think it depends on how well you usually do on the SAT essay, since it’s left out on the PSAT. Also, there are less questions, so endurance is not so much an issue…but then again everyone has this advantage. There shouldn’t be too much of a difference, but don’t take my word

No, I think ur misunderstanding my question. I am going into my junior year, and have been studying for the SAT and I am going to take the PSAT in October, so i am wondering how my practice tests score on the SAT reflect the PSAT (October).

They are very accurate indicators of how you will score.

There accurate. There both the same mostly. Just add or subtract a couple of points, because of the essay section which is left out. There great predictors.

But difficulty differs and curves with it.

Oh, in that case it should probably be a little higher, unless you easily score 12s on your essays but lose a lot of points on MC. But then again that’s just the writing section. It is much shorter (5 sections I believe) and covers slightly less advanced math concepts. You could also go to your local library & take some tests in a PSAT book to see how you do.

yea, i usually get 10s on my essay, and two wrong on the grammar (multiple choice), so i think i am good. Right?

The materials are similar, so practicing on the SAT will help prepare you for the PSAT. The scale on the PSAT is harsh because of the National Merit Scholarship component. For example, if you miss one math problem you could get a score from 78-75. There are also past PSATs that are very helpful to use for practice.

^No, the math PSAT scale is harsh compared to the SAT primarily because the math is shorter (38 questions on the PSAT vs. 54 on the SAT). The PSAT scores are designed to be indicative of what you would score on the SAT.

Mine was off by about 19/190 points.

PSAT: W = 75, R = 65, M = 67
SAT: W = 800, R = 720, M = 740

Studying makes a difference.
