How early do I get an ED response?

Upenn (my ED school) says that they will notify me BY December 15th. Does this mean that I could be notified prior to that date? Regular decision apps are due Jan 1, and it'd be nice to get some kid of heads up on whether or not I have to apply to like 8 more schools.

thanks

You should get all your other aps ready to mail because you will not get an ED notice before December 14th or 15th.

If the decision says "by the 15th", it will probably come out the 15th, or a couple days before, and not before the Monday before the 15th.

It's up to you if you think you can do the other applications justice in that amount of time.

Check the threads on CC last year - you'll be able to see when Penn actually sent out notifications.

I'd strongly recommend getting the other apps done well before the 15th.

Is there any way to avoid sending in the application fee until after the 15th? Will the college open a file for you or do you have to send in the fee first?

Do I give the teacher recs to my teacher before ED decision come in or after? I'm using the same teachers for ED and regular. If I give it early it might be lost. If I give after ED decisions it might be a little risky. What to do?

I'd give all the recommendations to the teacher at once - it's probably easier for the teacher that way. You should be very clear which recommendation is for the ED school and what the deadline is - put a sticky on it, attach a note, etc.

maverach, I think you can send in the fee later for many schools. You could have all the applications in envelopes ready to go with the fee on Dec. 15 (or ready to go online). I'd just have all the work done on them if you want to hold off on paying the fees.

er..i would definately send in the fee
