I’ll admit that Rutgers is poorly managed and that I hate some of the decisions that they have made. Regardless, I don’t think that I could have gotten a better education for a better price. And the opportunities are incredibly limited- there are a lot of smaller programs on here that haven’t been mentioned (such as the Aresty program for undergraduate research) that are accessible to all students.

I applied to Rutgers priority with a 3.52 and an SAT score of 1040 and got waitlisted, but notified of my acceptance by May 1. I was so surprised, especially after hearing people I know who had 2.5’s with good SAT’s. So they definately look at everything. I go there now…it’s the perfect challenge that I need and a great school with reasonably high expectations. Good luck…RU rah rah!

Rutgers is not really a joke. Two years ago I applied to New Brunswick’s CAS and Business School and got waitlisted with a 3.2GPA and 1140/1600, 1630/2400 SAT and my school sends A LOT of students to Tier 1 colleges.

yea i applied to SAS, Engineering and Business in Newark my stats are
1660-SATs
my school does QPA(quaility points average)…very wierd i know …
so my QPA is 85.79 …I dont even know what gpa that would come out to be

Im very nervous and even more nervous because I applied late like December 5th and also I switched my business school from NB to Newark on December 11th so Im worried that my application will go further down on the waitedlist !! =(

I have a 2.6 GPA with 1380/1600 2090/2400 SAT Scores and it took forever for the status screen to change, like well over a month. When it finally did, it switched to 7th semester grades requested :-/ I’m mad I can get into Penn State University Park after a month and a half but not Rutgers ugh. I ended up mailing them my 1st MP grades since semester isn’t over til February and I want to get a move on.

^ Did you really get into PSU-UP with those stats? I’m surprised because I thought PSU was more into GPA than SAT’s.

yanksfan, nope. I wasn’t accepted after the waitlist. If it’s because I didn’t respond to the letter then I’m not surprised. I accepted Purdue’s acceptance letter after I saw the waitlist letter from Rutgers.

Yep I did. Division of Undergrad Studies instead of Eberly College of Science (that I applied to) since I didn’t take a “higher math” (no calc or even precalc). I think race was a factor though lol I’m Nigerian and wrote about my upbringing in my essay.

I have a 3.6 GPA weighted, 3.4 unweighted. My SAT scores are 1660 (1130 Composite), and my rank is 70 out of 167 (which is like 40% I think). I also have many extra-curricular activites (VP of two clubs at my school). I applied a month and a half ago and still haven’t heard anything yet (still says In Process). I also live in state. Do you think I have a decent chance of getting in? It is my #1 choice of college.

I would say it depends on what major that you are applying to. I have seen someone with 1500’s(all three sections combined) got accepted and someone else was rejected with 1700’s for Rutgers. They have a big range for the accepted students. Good Luck.

I don’t know whether Rutgers is a prestigious school or not, but I do know two alumni who are very smart and successful. Not all of us can be good test-takers like you guys. I am an out-of-state student with a 1020/1600 and 22 ACT (high scores combined: 24). BUT I have a 3.86 weighted GPA (3.53 unweighted) and was recently accepted into the Mason Gross School for visual art and I am highly considering it because I hear that it has a phenomenal arts program. These posts are now making me question the quality of the university

My question simply is this, is Mason Gross a good arts school and should I still consider Rutgers?

P.S. It sort of does bother me that you are saying this is a school for mediocrity. I mean to each his own, but please recognize the fact that your intelligence cannot be based off a number.

It’s a state university. You will have your share of student who are not as academically motivated. But this does NOT make it a mediocre school. You have so many resources – top researchers, top professor, top departments and so much more. It is far from mediocrity.

Ging3r: Your portfolio and GPA will often play a bigger role than some silly test you took one Saturday morning when it comes to admittance into Mason Gross.

Mason Gross is an excellent arts school and yes, you should still consider Rutgers.

I didn’t get into rutgers new brunswick.
my stats
3.4 gpa
sats -
writing 570
math 650
reading 530

played high school soccer
honors business courses freshman year
editor in chief of school newspaper
created club in my school
have been working since fresh year 20+ hrs /week

IN state!

honestly. i was really upset over it
maybe it’s just me but i think being in state and all i should’ve gotten in
i applied to 3 NB schools, rejected from 2, waitlisted 1, and then i was put into the Newark campus for business (not an option).

I know students with much worse stats who got in.
I really want to go there, if admitted there was a really good chance I would’ve gone.
Anyone know what I should do or what they think?
I need to find a way in or something

Wow, don’t just slap on an assumption on someone just cause s/he didn’t get into Rutgers.

beachbum: Which schools did you apply to? Pharmacy, Business, Nursing, and Engineering are definitely hard to get into. SAS seems like it would be ok for you though.
