At my school, GT is the designation given to classes above honors level but below AP level.
10th grade:
Government AP
Calculus AB AP
Chemistry GT
English 10 GT
Latin 3 Honors
Macroeconomics AP (full year)
Music Theory AP
US History AP (self study)
Is 5 APs too many for a soph? None of them are known for being notoriously difficult, other than maybe Music Theory, so I don’t think it will be too hard. My parents believe it will too difficult, however. Opinions?
I am surprised at your high school you are allowed to take AP classes. At my children HS you can only take AP classes in 11th and 12th grade. My senior son took AP Government and it was pretty hard. He walked away with a 90 which is a B in our school. I currently also have a 10th grader and I think 5 AP classes might be too difficult. I would go with a few AP and the rest honors! Good Luck.
Not sure about the self-study. Other than that, doesn’t look too bad.
Why self study AP us? Does your school not offer it? Other than that it looks fine. For some kids, AP is simply the appropriate level for a moderate challenge. For other kids, it is overwhelming. You are the only one who can tell if you can handle it or not.
If your school offers AP US History, you are better off taking the actual class instead of self studying. Top colleges are not impressed by self studying and you’re better off with a teacher reviewing your essays for AP test preparation. Assuming you are strong in music, the rest is fine, IMO.
APUSH is not offered at my school.
Is US History offered at your school? Not AP, just US History? If so, have you taken that class? If you have, then the self-study should be review material for you. If not, wait to take the class and self-study alongside, filling in the blanks as you go along.
