How good is a 600?

hey i was wondering..im a 600s scorer for the most part, (even on SATS). Is that a good score for normal people (excluding CC, lol)

It really depends on which test and what school you are applying to, but in general the 600s are good for "normal" people.

The only good scores are 700+

stupid people (or people who don't study) get 600

umm..actually i do study, but okay.

tiberian is right.

ignore oistrakh.

The average for college-bound students is in the low 500's so yea, a 600 is above average.

Yeah if I hadn't gone to this forum for the past month I would be very happy with my SAT II scores (660 lit, 650 math ii, 770 USH), but after seeing all the overachievers on CC, I am very depressed about the first two scores, and feeling insufficient and insecure about the 770.

600 should be okay for most people if you don't want to go to a higher-tier college. Most people at my school got in the 500's or lower. I'm the only one in my entire school that even got anything higher than a 700 on any subject test. Most "normal" people aren't too concerned about their scores because they don't care too much about it.

yeah.

i feel retarded compared to some of the people on here.

nameless isn't telling the truth.

Averages can be found here:
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/scores/understanding/average.html

The average scores are usually around 600s.

Don't compare yourself with anyone here in the webboard. Who knows, they could be lying about their scores? It's so easy, and no one can really prove it. Besides, the SAT scores aren't everything. I'll tell you what. Last year, I was planning to apply to some of the elite schools, and I came across this webboard by chance. After looking at their scores, and comparing to my 1300 (out of 1600), I decided not to apply to those schools because I thought I wasn't good enough. Stupid of me, I know. And then over time, I have met many people who got into those elite schools with a SAT score that was even less than mine. So what's the lesson? This webboard is good when it comes to discussing what's going on, and about what the answers to the questions on the tests are, and what books are good for certain tests. However, when it comes to talking about scores and your chances of being accepted, I suggest you not to listen to it.

panda speaks the truthi know kids who got into "elite" schools with low test scores compared to the kids on this site... one kid got into UVA with a 1870 and I know another got into Cornell with a 1950... the cornell kid was a URM, but i honestly don't believe URM is as big of a deal as everyone on this site makes it out to be, but let's not start that debate... again

anyways just goes to show that kids with "low" SAT scores can get into top unis.

If you get a 680 doesn't that place you in a range of about 100 points? Which surely means a 680 should count as potentially a 700+ with universities?

I dont study and I got two 800s so far.. but then again my lack of studying/homework shows on my GPA

SAT Subject Tests: The Average (Mean) Subject Test Score

The average score varies from test to test. This is because different groups of students take different tests. For this reason, you shouldn't compare scores across the different Subject Tests. You can compare your scores to the average Subject Test scores for 2005 College-bound Seniors:

panda, you are completely correct. most of the people on the site are cocky ***holes, and are probably lying about their scores. Even still, perfect boards on every single test ever is not going to get you into college. alot of people on CC do not realize that. College Admissions today is less about SAT and AP scores, and more about ECs, character and essays.

Harvard rejects 3 out of every 5 2400's. So all you jerks out there who tell peope a 650 is bad and retake 790s, I sure hope you have a lot more going for you than good test scores.

"alot of people on CC do not realize that. College Admissions today is less about SAT and AP scores, and more about ECs, character and essays."

Don't believe thats true. EC's, character and essays only take a big part when two people's stats are comparable i think. just my opinion

Isn't it within 50 pts? And one would have to consider that it can potentially be seen as a 630 rather than a 730.

@Lurker: But we all must remember the simple fact that at all the high-tier colleges, all the stats are similar and thus character is more important.

Just my two cents.

iljets, agreed.
