How greatly can I improve my SAT writing?

A few days ago, I took my first SAT practice test for the Princeton Review course, so my score is far from final. Still, the results I just got back today were rather unnerving:

Overall: 1860
Math: 750
Reading: 680
Writing: 430

My math is fine where it is, but I wouldn't mind if it improved. My reading is also manageable, although I'd like to get it above a 700. Now my writing score . . . to be honest, it's terrible. My essay was fine, and I didn't feel as though there were any real issues with it. The rest, however, I most likely performed very poorly with. I'm hoping to get into Cornell, and my Grades (and EC's) seem like they can get me in. My ACT Plan score was 30, so my score on the ACT should be around 33-35. The only major issue I face is my SAT score. To accomplish my goal, I need to get my score well above 2100, and this awful performance has been bugging me nonstop for the past few hours. At this point, is it possible to raise my writing score from a 430 to above a 700? I'm entering 11th grade this coming fall, so I have until Spring to make a significant improvement.

It’s possible. I didn’t start as low as you did but I raised my practice SAT W sections from a low 600 to 790s and 800s. I only had a few 760s but they were all stupid mistakes.

Once you find the errors to each problem (I suggest you pay attention in English class to help you identify the problem), then the W section should be relatively easy.
