How hard is it to get into the Food Science curriculum at Cal poly slo?

I know all courses at Cal poly slo is competitive to get into and would like ppl’s opinion on how competitive it would get into the Food science curriculum compared to other majors offered.

Based on published target projections, Food Science had around a 90% acceptance rate. Computer science in comparison was 6%. Several majors in the College of Agriculture have 90% or higher acceptance rates: Plant Sciences, Agriculture Systems Management, BioResource and Ag Engineering and Dairy Science.

I don’t think it’s 90 percent @Gumbymom. You’re assuming that the yield rate is 33 percent. But the yield rate for the agriculture college in general was around 50 percent. I think it’s more reasonable for the acceptance rate to be around 50-60 percent.

True, I am using the assumption that 3x the target divided by expected # of applicants. Still pretty good odds in comparison for so many of the other majors at SLO. This is also for Freshman. For Transfers, if you use the same formula, it is about 50%.

Thank you for the analysis and opinions!
