I am in the top 7% of my HS class, but I know that getting into the college and major that you want can be difficult. Is the College of Communication highly selective? I am interested in majoring in RTF, is that major very competitive?

Hey! I want to give some wisdom! With the rate that you are at, please know that you have a major leg up in the race! I am a Moody Communications student at the film department! It is a great place! I myself was not in the top ten percentile but made sure my high school career was full of as many activities, leadership, and volunteer work as possible in addition to my film interests.

With your top 7% ranking, KEEP IT UP! You can even have a huge advantage for merit scholarships and there is an automatic top 7% admissions for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 applicants so that is amazing already!
Start early as well. Start doing things that will continue to set yourself apart from the rest (workshops, volunteer on a set in your hometown, start creating a directing/writing sample portfolio if that fits your interest! The department has so many avenues of study. Production, history, producing, marketing, audio, gaming, and the business side of the film industry, and so much more! If you can, schedule a tour! The more enthusiasm and energy, the higher the chances as well. Find contact information with the advising and film department! Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself as an interested aspiring film student!

When applying to the film school, make sure you outline and preach your reasons why the film industry influences you. I wish you the absolute best of luck! It is a great choice and you will learn so much and view film differently with heightened knowledge after your first semester! Cheers to an awesome career as well! Hook Em’ and best of luck!
