I was just curious as to how hard the Spanish Placement exam is?
I took two years of Spanish in high school, I do Duolingo most every day, and I try to keep my mind active, with Spanish. I’ve never been too good at listening comprehension though…
Thank you!
The placement test isn’t that bad. I took six years of Spanish (didn’t really learn much) and don’t practice it at all outside of school, and still got a pretty good placement. The listening component is relatively easy cause they talk slow. Don’t worry, it’s just a placement test and the fact you keep your mind active with Spanish will probably help a lot!
My daughter had two years of high school Spanish (2 and 3, tested out of 1). She does that duolingo thing too, I think that is how she got out of Spanish 1. She was able to test out of U of M Spanish and get her credit. She said the placement test wasn’t hard.
It really depends on the quality of your HS Spanish department. I took a couple years of Spanish in high school and learned absolutely nothing (I thought). I hated learning it and never practiced, yet tested out of the entire Spanish requirement. I have friends at UM who took 8-10 years of Spanish in middle school and HS, yet only tested out of 1 class. Some tested out of zero.
Everyone at UM thinks their high school was the hardest, but realistically some high schools are definitely more rigorous in the languages. All in all, don’t stress. It’s out of your control at this point.
