Hi, I am a current senior in high school in California. Since our college application due date has been getting closer, I'm curious about my dream college
I have a decent GPA (weighted 4.08) and have SAT score of 2030. Also, a few business related clubs, like FBLA and Speech and Debate for 2 years. Also, I've done a community service for nearly 3 years straight. My leadership position might be a Freshmen mentoring program mentor. I've done that for 2 years from junior year.
I heard that Foster school of Business direct admission for Freshman is very competitive. My high school is decent high school (Dublin High School), and I want to figure out what kind of students is UDUB looking for. Also, if I get in to school, I am willing to pay full tuition, so can you guys give me some advice?
Thank you for reading this and have a nice day.
You should apply anyway. The worst that can happen is that you’ll get denied admissions to Foster Business School. It looks like your stats will get you into UW general admission even though you might not get into Foster. They want your out of state fees. Also, applying to Foster as a junior is very competitive.
You might want to follow up with the UW admissions office just to make sure what I said is correct. I do know of someone from CA who about 8 years ago applied to UW’s Foster as a freshman. He was denied admission as a freshman to Foster, but was accepted to the general freshman admissions at UW.
My son is a direct admit into Foster right now. When we went to the information session, they told us it was purely numbers. They figure out how many they can take and draw the line. If you are above it, you are in. the only thing you do to apply is to put Business as your expected major. I know a lot of kids that got in direct admit and some that didn’t. Those that didn’t do need to work harder their first couple of years to compete to get in, but it is doable.
I"m pretty sure they look at unweighted gpa and the do NOT superscore SATs at UW, so keep that in mind.
Also…I believe they take 200 Freshmen into the program.
A UW admissions officer recently visited my school. When I expressed interest in Foster, she did not even bring up direct admission. I knew about it prior to meeting her so I brought it up, and she strongly discouraged me from applying. She said its extremely competitive and a lot of the places go to In state residents. I think she said that cause I’m an international student. From what I’ve gauged, I believe it is simply competitive relative to UW, not Ivy leagues. Hence, the acceptance rate should be around 15-20% and if you express interest in less sought after majors (supply chain a management), have decent SAT scores (which you do) and are basically a decent applicant, you should be fine. Just don’t expect any financial aid.
On a side note, I didn’t heed her advice and just submitted my application last week. Good luck!
