How hard was USC this year to get into?

Was it me or was USC much more competitive than it usually is? I think USC is climbing faster and faster in ranking and recognition. What do you guys think? My friend got rejected and he told me the letter said the average this year was 4.0 GPA and 1400 SAT with the most fierce competition ever. I think in 10 years USC might become the Stanford of SoCal... it already is underatted as it is.

I would agree with your assessment of USC’s rise in prestige. It might take a little bit longer than 10 years, but the goal is to become one of the most difficult schools to get into. USC’s SAT scores has already surpassed Cal- Berkeley and UCLA, so the next logical step is to match Stanford.

I think last year’s stats were a bit lower- 1350 SAT, 4.0 GPA.

USC Grad BS/BA

Hmmm, ya, anyone with decisions have any opinon on this? I am deciding between UCLA, USC, Berkeley, and Emory. Looking to go into Medicine. Do you think USC's reputation is much improved and harder to get into? I know people from my school that got into Berkeley but not USC.

4.0 GPA is the average? LOL. That's inflated as hell.

Why don't they have the unweighted average?

I feel like my GPA is low, but I suppose it's not too bad. .3 lower than the average.

3.7 W, 3.3 UW.

LADodgers, what are your stats?

4.8 Weighted/4.0 Unweighted

1420 SAT I

760/700/670 SAT II

Number 1 in class.

Deec extracurriculars and leadership, good community service.

Yep, I read that USC's average SAT was higher than Berkeley's too. Haven't the public schools been losing state funding?

4.0 has to be weighted, because it said 4.06 in last year profile for avg gpa of matriculated. i got 1380 SAT I, 690/630/630 SAT II, 96/749 (4.0 W gpa), good ec/essay and i havent heard yet, so most likely rejected (should i be?) sorry to sound all whiney, just really stressed out and sick

well i got in with 1290 and a 2.9 gpa and my friends got in with 1200 and two with close to 1000 so well there you go ther figures are highly inflated

jeez *** lol, howd i get rejected

How did you get in with such poor stats?

probably because im smart and i dont study heheh i did badly in subjects like languages and well in like math and sciences , and im doing IB 4 hl's hehe and i have good recs

i was really suprised that i got in and when those two of my friends got in i was just disgusted to say the least ther just really stupid i dunno how they got in i coudnt believe it

well many of the people at my school who got rejected by ucla and cal got into usc, so i dunno if usc has already surpassed them...

can someone explain this gpa thing to me? what sorta scale is the weighted gpa on? my school uses a 10.0 scale. but also is there a 4.0 scale as well???

im really ****ed off at USC admission, they let some of the least qualified people in, and some of the best out.

i think their recommendations must have been big, big people. probably people that contribute to the school.

my son's friend got into nyu film school. had an 1140 SAT (after taking it 3 times), a decent gpa (3.8 uw), nothing to brag about in the filmmaking dept (no awards), BUT had a recommendation letter from Barry Diller, who is not only a huge name in entertainment, but also on the board of directors of nyu. no brainer why this person got in and others more qualified didn't.

Sakrei, what kind of stats are you referring to when you say that a lot less qualified got in? I don't know many who are less qualified and got it except for one or two out of PLENTY. BTW, what are your stats if you don't mind sharing?

here are my stats:
1380 sat (670 M 710 V)
690 math2c 630 chem 630 writing
96/748 rank, 4.0 W gpa (5.0 IB scale, regular class 4.0)
impressive essay (mathematically described a brekdance move and related it to my life) / great EC's (main hook is national breakdance champion and co-captain of school's hiphop / breakdance team, TONS of volunteering / tutoring, job with citigroup (current employment); internships since I was 14 (in summers), wrote that I visited to india, sweden(with a man speaking at the nobel prize conference), amsterdam, japan.
counseler rec (good? counseler sorta dumb)

They are not amazing ill agree; I know a kid who had an SAT in the 1200s and was ranked 15% who got admitted. Also another who got a 1510, spent no time on his essay, and was top 23%, he got in too. Maybe I am completely wrong, but it sure does feel this way.
