I had mostly Bs and a C in freshmen year (because i slacked off really bad >_<), but all As in sophemore and junior year with my school’s most rigorous courses.
How much will the bad grades in freshmen year negatively affect my admission chances?

some schools like princeton dont look at freshman grades. :)

How about UCs? How much do they weight freshmen grades?

Through my two older sisters, I can condiently say that some colleges look at freshman year. Basically freshman year serves as an analysis and shows whether you will transition well into college. (If you transitioned well into freshman year, it is assumed you will do the same in college). So they are pretty important, but colleges will realize that you screwed up, and your on the right track. SAT scores ?

CC user 2400, you are quite wrong in some cases. Some schools, simply do not look at 9th grade, UCs among them. There is another thread discussing which schools do not look at 9th grade.

I am not wrong. I said SOME. And my response is based on teh schools that do look at freshman year.

The UCs don't look at your freshman grades.

While some schools wink or don't at your freshman grades remember that your freshman grades are still calculated in your overall gpa which the school does look at. So unless your freshmen grades are totally backout and your transcript recalculated, I really don't beleive the concept that schools "don't look" at your freshman grades.

It's almost like saying schools are need blind when just by looking at the first sheet of your application they see that you have check the box stating that you need financial aid or the big color fee wavier sheet attached they can assess your financial situation

sybbie719, transcripts from most California public schools will list a "UC GPA" calculation that excludes 9th grade and includes only 10th-12th grade courses that are on the UC eligibility list.

California public and private high school students can actually search for their HS name to verify that a particular course is "UC eligible" ...
