Hi I'm a junior taking 4 IB HLs as certificates.
I want to get an idea of how important the IB Internal Assessments are in terms of college admissions... Will it hurt if I don't get good scores for the IAs? Do colleges ever look at my IB IA scores? (I am talking about top tier schools)
I am currently doing a Math IA, and my teacher said it doesn't affect our grades in school.

Also, since I am taking IB classes, do most colleges look at my predicted (IB exam) scores? Or do they just look at the grades I have in class?

I am also currently an IB junior and im pretty certain colleges dont look at your IB scores unless you want to use IB credit to get out of inro level classes. I’m about 98% certain they do not look at that during the admission process. They will look at your grades, rigor of course work, and gpa. The IA is only to determine whether or not you will get an IB diploma.

Internal assessment scores and, for that matter, IB scores do not matter for college admissions.

IA scores are a significant part of your final IB score. This does not matter for college admissions but does matter for placement and college credit.

The IB Certificate program is a waste of time. It’s a shame they ever implemented it. You can get a certificate even if you fail, which is part of what costs the program its reputation and harms the reputation of the IB overall. You would get more credit for AP exams and will miss out on the IB experience. Either do the IB Diploma or APs. (Although it sounds like it’s too late for that now.)

U.S. schools don’t care about your predicted scores. These are only a factor in international admissions.

Put an honest effort into the IAs. Take them seriously. Doing so will help immensely in preparing you for college regardless of what credit you do or do not get. Perhaps the most important thing I got out of my IB Diploma was the work that went into that piece of paper. I was immensely more prepared for college as a result, which meant a smooth transition–much smoother than that experienced by most of my peers.

Beyond the educational benefits, if you do well enough to get college credit, you’ll thank yourself for it later.

Be warned that many schools accept credit for IB exam scores only if you successfully obtain an IB Diploma.

Yes I am an international applicant. So in that case… US colleges DO look at my predicted IB scores? I’m not really familiar with how IB totals up my scores… Final score = exam score + IA scores??
Again, I am talking about top tier schools.

Oops, sorry–by international I meant international for a U.S. resident. Schools outside the U.S. care about your IB scores and predicted scores; schools inside the U.S. don’t and usually don’t even ask for them.

Final IB scores depend on the subject. Your teachers should be able to provide you with a syllabus that breaks down the components of your final score by each exam paper and each internal component (as well as any external components beyond the exams).
