I have been accepted to Ohio State and Temple University as a transfer. Currently wait listed at the University of Minnesota. My intended major is Risk Management and Insurance. I was accepted directly into the business schools for both OSU and Temple. I wanted to know how important rank/location/reputation of school is. For now, I want to commit to OSU. From what I have gathered

Perks of OSU:
-Fisher Connect (I believe that's what it is called), They help to fully prepare you for interviews and go as far as to even set up an interview for you on campus
- Columbus seems like a great city for job opportunities. However, I'm not sure how the field in Columbus is for Risk Management and Insurance.
- School Spirit. Although I am committed to my studies, I do like to have fun and attend football/basketball games. OSU Buckeyes have enormous school spirit

Perks of Temple:
- Ranked 6th in the nation for Risk Management and Insurance according to U.S. News. Not sure why it is ranked so high. (If anyone could inform me of why it is. I'm thinking it has to to with recruitment or strength of the overall program)
- Philadelphia, Another city which seems to have great job opportunities.

I ultimately see myself working in the city which was another big reason why I chose some of the schools that I applied to. I am from NJ, so I will be OOS and cost will ultimately be the same between OSU and Temple. (If I get off the wait list for Minnesota and choose to go it will be a little cheaper)

I would just like some insight on whether OSU or Temple is the better choice. Another thing that strays me away is the crime rate in Philadelphia. Temple is located in North Philly where it is the most dangerous. However, I do know they have great campus police and I know that no matter where I go I just need to make good judgement. Any input would be great!

If you want to go into insurance, you cannot beat Temple. Philadelphia is a huge market for insurance, and the other huge markets (Hartford, New York, Boston, Chicago) all have companies that recruit at Temple. I’m not sure how Temple became so great for insurance in the first place, but it has historically been that way. I am from Minnesota and I can say with complete confidence that the Insurance program at the U of M is a joke. Other schools with great insurance programs are the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Georgia State, and the University of Texas. If I were you, I would go to Temple though.

I’ve been researching online for why temple is ranked so high and can’t find any answers either. OSU is switching to semester and will have an insurance program starting this summer as well as a finance major with a specialization in Risk Management Insurance. I’m still unsure of which school to attend but your input was very helpful thank you very much!

Do you happen to know how the career services is at Temple? In terms of helping you find internships and setting you up with interviews and helping you prepare for them? As I stated above, I know OSU has a great system to fully prepare you for interviews and to help find internships.

I work at an insurance company that’s main office is based on the east coast, and I can say that their career services are very good at getting companies to come on campus (which always ****es my company off, because they are so many other companies to compete with). In addition, they have a risk management and insurance fraternity that does a lot in terms of getting students connected with companies. Also, since Temple has historically been known as a great insurance school, they tend to get the most accomplished faculty in the insurance field, which also helps bring attention.

Columbus is a great place for insurance, as Nationwide is headquartered there. Plus, Columbus is a very nice place to live during and after school. Nothing beats OSU sports, and Columbus has a very large demographic of white-collared workers.

Temple is ranked #6, but it is arguably the best insurance program in the USA. Definitely top 3. Check out Gamma Iota Sigma, Sigma Chapter for more info on their Risk Management&Insurance professional fraternity, it is the best in the nation. Temple produces many students who have passed multiple professional exams during school. Temple campus also keeps improving year by year and Philadelphia is a great city!

I strongly suggest your visit Temples campus and walk around the area at night. If you make it the weekend without being robbed then you can decide to go. As someone who lives in the city and has been on and around the campus, be very afraid. The campus is nice, but it is the worst part of Philly.

I call your attention to the above exhibit.

As someone who has also been on OSU’s campus and knows friends who go, it is a beautiful school with an amazing sports tradition. Columbus is a cool smaller city and there are jobs there as well.

Personally, I would go with OSU. You will have a better college experience and the camaraderie among graduates is insane. OH - IO.

Thanks for all your input guys. I will be visiting Temple this friday for a special transfer day tour/information session. I also plan to visit OSU within the next two weeks.
