See, my problem is that I’m currently living in Taiwan.

Is it too late to get an interview? I’m applying regular. Do I need to interview before I submit the application, or can I do it in January (after submitting)?

On their site, it states that alumni interviews must be completed by Jan 1 and must be requested by November 15.

Bates College | Admissions

In terms of importance, it is listed as a "very important" component of the application process. You can see this in their common data set:

I don't know if exceptions are made for international students.

International students are not expected to interview, however, I have a feeling their chances increase if they do. You should inquire about alumni interviewers in Taiwan (which I doubt there are many, if any). In case there are none, you will be fine as nobody would expect you to travel abroad to interview.

More details with different link. All I did was search Bates for "international interview".

I am an international student living in the UK and i got asked for an interview from Yale on the 24 Jan.

kirasciberras - This is a Bates thread. Your post has to do with a Yale interview. Relevance?

interview= very important.
BUT i have heard of people getting in without one

I'm sure that if you live in Taiwan they're not toooo strict about interviewing! I know a few kids who got in with out an interview. I did interview, and I was accepted, but I noticed that the kids who were accepted without an interview were a little academically better off than I. I'm not really sure, but I'm sure you're fine! good luck!!
