How in the world do I improve my writing score.

Just got back the results of Oct SAT, and guess what?

Reading 740(Not bad for first time taker)
Math 680 (Same as above, but could be slightly improved on a good day)
Writing essay 10 (Impressive for me)
And....

Writing 560

This murdered my score putting me just below that 2000 mark I was aiming for. I don't know how to improve this section because everyone seems to have no problem with it on CC hence the lack of recommendations on how to improve(as opposed to reading in which I excel and everyone has problems in). I heard there were some good grammar guides on this forum but I cant find them. I doubt there's much I can do about it now but I'm retaking in November and just as an issue of pride I'd like to try and beat this damn test.

Also....how good is my 1420? Percentile wise.

I just got an 800 on writing, which has by far been the bane of my SAT experience before (580) last time.
A 10 essay is very good, so your formula seems to be working well, though you may want to review Academic Hacker’s quide to writing a 12 essay. I completely BSed my essay and got an 11 by following his format.

As fore MC, strive to become a grammerian. Read some William Safire, etc. and also check out Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide. That book was of paramount importance in my earning of an 800.

My writing score: 680, 690, 690, despite the huge jump in everything else the third take. Damn grammar. Gets me every time.
